Hi all,

There are a plethora of LED lighting brands right now, and I was wondering what you guys think of the few top brands? Orphek, maxspect, Radion etc.

And what are the pros and cons of both and what you would like to change/modify bout your current LED lighting of choice?

Debating between the few for various tank ideas I have in mind, and thought i'd tap on the extensive knowledge of you fellow reefers!

I personally have tried Maxspect AI and Radion before.

i would say the price difference do justify their differences.

However it is my limited experience only.

perhaps you would like to share what are you after, in terms of sps lps.

budget wise, tank sizes etc etc.

some of these lightset have more classic control while others are more modern. so it all depends on what you are after.

I guess for me personally it would be sps dominated tanks with some lps. Let's just say no budget at the moment and we can work down from there if needed haha. Tank size roughly from 3-5 ft, and 5-7ft.

And also i just wanna hear what other reefers have to say about their lightings and their setups just for knowledge in the bank!

Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500

Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil

Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w

Controller : GHL Profilux

Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes

Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator

External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. Monitor for main tank and GHL Profilux Controller to measure temp, pH, Redox

I am using Zetlight for my mixed reef. So far i am happy with the sps growth and remote control. Cloud and lighting mode are just for fun. One thing i dont like abt it is that there is only one built in fan.

子非鱼,焉知鱼之乐... (you are not the fish so you...)

Then: my 4FT low tech selling off tank... (2006)

Now: (2014)

The led light market now is so varied and meets different level of consumer range. from time i started mh, t5 ...leds...hybrids...whats next..? I guess for me i went trgh the older maxspect range and found them to be good if you are on an entry level or mid. More functions more headache. Over the years of reefing...i realise i would rather have more time watching the tank then having to meddle with the setup here and there. so you got to know what are the range you fall in...look at your budget, opt for 1 more higher level then source the lights. As your tank size gets bigger...prices for equipment will increase a fair bit. Some models of lights allows you to add on modules.
