SRC Member JMW Posted November 27, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted November 27, 2016 If not having dinos, a black out is not necessary. Reducing the photoperiod will help. Can do some WC to help further reduce nitrates. doesnt look like hair algae or bryposis? Clearer pic would help. So it may be regular green algae which snails can help eat off. Astreas, turbos can help.

kohanson
Try to raise your light higher, reduce lighting period and lower the intensity of the light if possible. I also have these greenish algae like turf on my rocks and managed to reduce greatly by reducing the lightings by 1 hour from 8 to 7 hours. I have also raised my light by about 10 cm higher. After that, I introduced one long spined urchin and 2 snails and they slowly cleaned up the rocks over a period of 2 - 4 weeks. Quote Tank: 3.5ft x 2ft x 1.5ft, 12mm Sump: 3ft Skimmer: Bubble Magus Curve 7 Lightings: Maxspect 15000k Return Pump: Eheim 1252 Wavemaker: Jebao WP25, Jebao RW-
roy81
I unable to raise my lights. As for intensity, currently my china led light setting is 20% white, 100% blue. Would lowering intensity be of impact to my corals? As for cleaning crew, i have 1 sea hare, 1 turbo snail, 1 nazarrus snail, 2 sand shift star. SRC Member nasotang Posted November 30, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted November 30, 2016 Try purchasing tuxedo urchins. They're reef safe and look cute and scrape/eat algae right down to the bare rock

roy81
Other than the tux urchin, any others that will clean up for me? Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
SRC Member finind Posted March 29, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted March 29, 2020 (edited) tux urchin can also be "temperamental" ... not sure when it starts to be interested in the green algae again ...sigh about 2 months ago almost wanted to give up my 1 ft nano tank as the alage has invaded all LR and sandbed ... maybe I got lazy and did not housekeep as often. before tearing the tank down I decided to clean up everything to give it a last chance. Sekali I noticed the urchin started to clear up the algae. So I got motivated and started to clean the tank more often and suck up the green stuff on the sand bed. Planning to remove all the sand if it didn't help. But lately the algae on the LR started to grow longer again... and the urchin is not eating. Strangely there is a small portion of the LR where the green algae got very thick become dark green color and the urchin clear it up Bought a zebra urchin (I think so) but doesn't help. My tank is special ... ... no fish, just some mushroom and skin polyp and 3 urchins. As budget and self sustain as possible. As long as it looks clean and tidy and the animals proven to be able to survive. No feeding. Only carbon and Phosguard in the sump. Use distill water from supermarket. wonder if my blue light is too cheapo ... actually is in the process to "upgrade" to LED bulb from China Edited March 29, 2020 by finind
SRC Member finind Posted April 3, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted April 3, 2020 while trying to get ideas on what else can help with the GHA, recalled I used to have the electric blue leg hermit crab quickly make a trip to LFS to pick up 2 hermit crab and 1 electric blue. first night no action. Seems like started working on the second day . Noticed some reduction of GHA on one of the liverocks. Will give them a week to see how things go before I consider Flux RX. SRC Member finind Posted April 13, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted April 13, 2020 after more than a week, finally the GHA is reducing glad the hermit crabs are helping too. will not use Flux RX unless GHA wild spread again. Will let the urchin and hermit crabs slowly nibble on the remaining GHA

SRC Member soggycookies Posted May 1, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted May 1, 2020 GHA mostly clean up by the crews what to feed them with now? just cut up some shrimp into small pieces and add to the tank but make sure it sinks so the hermits can get it before it goes into the filtration Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
