Hi All Old Birds (Fish rather),
Just purchased a RedSea Reefer 525XL coming in 1.5-2 months. Hoping to share my progress and also to pick up tips and learn about the best practices along the way and have personalised feedback. This will be for a mixed reef tank for largely more hardy soft corals, LPS and fishes until confidence picks up and tank maturity.
Equipment List:
Tank & Lights: Red Sea REEFER XL 525 Deluxe (comes with 3 X ReefLED 90)
Return Pump: COR-20 - Intelligent Return Pump
Flow: Red Sea ReefWave 45 x 2
Skimmer: Red Sea REEFER RSK-600 Skimmer
Chiller: Teco Chiller TK2000
Live Sand: Caribsea Arag-Alive! Fiji Pink 30kg
Rock: Caribsea Life Rock x 30kg
Salt: Red Sea Coral Pro Salt
Nitrifying Bacterial: Red Sea Reef Mature Starter Kit
Water: 5 stage RO/DI system
Additional Bio Media: Marine Pure Block 8x8x4" - I got this because of the reduced amount of Life Rock & Sand, recommended amounts are 50kg of each but I prefer a less cluttered outlook so this will add in buffer for bio-filtration.
Test Kits: Red Sea MCP Marine Care Test Kit
I am intending to expand on this to run a manifold with 3 outlets for Chaeto reactor, Carbon reactor and 1 spare. Following which would be to integrate with the Apex 2016 Controller and also install the FMM so that I can put a figure on the flow rates going to each equipment and return.
Questions for a start (Please pardon me if any of my question puts you off, i am only learning too!) :
1. Any hardware shops in the East to pick up plumbing equipment and what is the standard UOM local reefers use? in Inches or MM or both? This gets quite confusing. I am intending to build a manifold and hard plumb the return so that the system is slightly future ready when the reactors come in.
2. For the Apex 2016 Controller, does the power bar comes with USA socket inputs and voltage? Does this mean that we need to run a transformer/have adapters for every socket input?

Hi, thank you for taking the time to read through.
Whats the Atlantis, Atlantis is what i named my Red Sea Reefer 350. Why name it Atlantis ? Atlantis has always fascinated me. And The Red Sea Reefer being my current dream tank build, the only thing i could think of naming is was The Atlantis.
I bought my Reefer 350 second hand from a fellow reefer. The tank was only used for a few months, 5 months to be exact. Well the tank was collected today. And i did the delivery myself. So i guess ill start this thread by writing my experience on how the delivery was done, and what you guys could learn from my mistakes.
My friend and i, yes 2 people. We went down to collect the tank, in my van. Lesson no 1, have more help. Despite the tank weighing 64kg, we had issues carrying it. issues faced was lifting the tank up higher due to the piping, instead of sliding it off the cabinet. Second issue faced was loading it into the van. It was an issue because again of the piping we could not slide it in and had to carefully place it. Now my van isnt that big. Its just enough to fit a 4 ft tank. Second issue faced, i decided i did not want to dismantle the cabinet and that we just put it in the van standing. Well it did fit, but due to the size of my van, it was just nice about 5-6 cm away from the door closing in. And the sump tank was just kissing the cabinet.
In my opinion, get more people to help. Also have some boxes or cloths to protect the tanks, because when i was driving, there were instances i had to brake hard, and in one of those breaks the sump slide forward and hit the tank. Luckily nothing happened, we stopped over at the patrol pump, got everything placed properly again and put cardboards between them just incase
Once the tank was home, it was a breeze to set up. Firstly the previous reefer had already set up the overflow pipes for me. All i had to do was fix the drainage, emergency drainage and return.
Now the tank sits, while its Rocks, salts, sands and biomedia come. Also going to do a leak test before filling it up with salt water.

Just tried this redsea product and sharing a review on this.
The redsea reef energy basically come with 2 bottle consisting of Part A and Part B which according to the instruction, contain foods for corals and all the basic Vietnam and supplement required for coral growth. It is like a All In One solution which i like. No more dosing all the separate supplement or foods for my coral. Two bottle fit all
Most of my coral in my 28g tank seem to be reacting well on the reef energy and opening up with good coloration.
What i like ; Small dosage and the free pipette which making dosing easier.
Dislike ; so far none if my coral is happy ...

Are there any triggerfish suitable for a smaller tank?
my old one was 5x2x2ft, about 120 gallons. current one is 6x3x2.5ft, about 300gallons. my tank is on ground level so i can’t say for the weight criteria of your apartment. best ask your local engineer about it to be safe. have a reeftank with mostly soft coral with a large angel as the centrepiece fish, several tangs, a large thalassoma wrasse, couple of clowns and 2 squirrel/soldierfish and a type of demoiselle.
