Under blue lights most corals r beautiful, put a white light and make comparison, u will get wat i mean.

eg. Green under blue lights - brown under white lights

But the BLV 14k is a white bulb right?

That means the SPS will look brown?

Tell you guys what, I try the Phoenix and see first. I always have spare BLVs in the storeroom

when the bulb spectrum and PAR is not right the sps tissue will slowly turn brown.

Ask those using phoenix 14kk for long time to fix in a BLV10kk bulb and see the colors of their acro.

Don't get fooled by blue bulbs.

what I meant was.. using BLV 10k (or maybe 14K BLV) will bring out the colour even more than phoenix 14K(personal experience). Add more T5 to have the "luminous effect". If u r using phoenix 14K alone, try look at yr corals when the MH is not on. I'm not saying P14K is not good but u may need to place yr corals higher as Mellow.

A sps placed under BLV 10k and P14K - I swear P14K looks better

I was looking between changing to Phoenix and adding 2 more blue T5s

But I got bought over after checking out some reefers' tanks under the Phoenix.

I've also seen a reefer's tank under over runned Phoenix and although the SPS look a little dark but the colours are still awesome.

Now I am trying an experiment as frags from the same colony of purple digitata looked different in another reefer's tank than mine. Mine looks brown but his is really nice purple.

Just add on to what Simon says, Phoenix 14kk will bring out more fluorescence effects on the corals so the SPS always seems nicer.

However due to the power PAR and poor spectrum very soon the SPS will turn darker.

You should try something like a milepora or yellow corals

Mellow, how long have you been using the phoenix? We need longer time effects.

I personally know of more than 5 reefers that had been using the phoenix but eventually switched to other bulbs with higher PAR.

Your SPS are 5" from the water surface so the PAR is still sufficient for the SPS.

yup, I guess it could be because my sps are really high up on my rock work, That's why decided to tell BH about my sps placement first just in case. So far I've been using phoenix for about 3 months.

3 months seems a little too short to tell the effects, we need like 6-8months or better still 1 year.

ha.....but that a reefer with 14k P pass me a digitata that i remember looks a bit more orange but become very red under my 10kk BLV......

or is was it red in his tank also (please refresh my memeory as you were there)....getting old, sometime remeber things a bit vaguely.....

Anyway, I almost crashed my CR today when I tuned it up before going to school.

Then when I came back, my CR was bubbling like a skimmer

Luckily I came back in time to turn it off or else

All thanks to the recirculation feature or I think it will explode

Funny thing is that my SPS look more colourful despite the accident. Water looks clearer too

Now considering a pH monitor connected to a solenoid and changing my cheapo regulator to a dual guage with needle valve
