Cycling of Tank

Halo reefers,

i'm a newbie here, i would like to get help about how to cycle

a new 3x2x2 tank.Wat are the things require and how long it takes ect.

Add a piece of market prawn, let it dissolved. Get yourself the ammonia, n02 and no3 test kit to test. When no3 show close to 0, your tank will roughly be cycled liao. But how long depend on ur sand, water and rocks.

After you have filled up the tank with saltwater, throw in your uncured live rock and circulate well. Wait 2-3 weeks and meantime get a nitrate test kit. Monitor until the nitrates pop down to near zero (after the 2d week). Voila! Tank cycled.

But do note, whenever you add new livestock or add new live rock, the tank wil undergo a mini cycle so watch your stocking speed. Slow and steady wins the cycling race.

You mean those dead prawn.. need to chop and peel the shell off ?

Eh my preference is to peel the shell off but there are others who just dump the whole prawn in. Yup those dead prawn that we eat. But take note, you might not want to throw the whole thing in, as the ammonia spike will be damn jia lat......if your tank in your room, i think you will faint hahha. i did.

Tell you what, just dump in a tea spoon of fish food. It'll start off the cycle.

Otherwise, if you are using really uncured rocks (ie bought straight from LFS and not from reefers) , then you can skip this stage.

Whatever it is, i advise not to purchase those fast bacterial growth ehancer, cycling agent thingies. Useless crap.

Hi all, i m newbie too.. just setup the 3 ft tank today.. with my great friend help..

Wash the sand about 4 bags with 2xC0 and 2xC1 and 10 bags of sea water... now is cycling.. think tomorrow will through in the prawn...
