Hi All

Finally my bro-in-law has installed his new improved DIY spray-injector skimmer at my place. Using a Rio 3000/ltr pump now.

No "movement" yet on the kopi-o yet as I think it is still in the "breaking-in" stage. But seems to have much turbulence inside the main body...

Closer look at the bubbles... mixture of sizes can be seen. Still testing and tuning...

The bubbles looks a bit big.

Maybe can reduce the size of the bubble?

Still tunning the bugger to get stable and finer bubbles.... not "broken in" as well...

The Rio 3000 lt/hr pump is causing my tank temperature to be at high 27 to 28 degrees... was always 26+ degrees using the smaller pump (2200 lt / hr)....

bad bad thing to run my 1st set in Reeflobang's tank...no review nothing...hai....

so have to do it myself...

after 1 day of breaking in...another day for tuning...this is wat my brother manage to get...fine bubbles and thick foaming...

2ft cube with around 10 X 1inch fishes...chromis, blennies, wrasse, flame angel and some other fishes...cannot remember...

how bout some thick foam on the collection cup cover...handphone sold seperately...

Hee hee, guinea pig here very busy the last few days......

Last night was foaming well. Water level was only at midway of the main column and the foam was able to rise all the way up to the collection cup! Super dry.

But once I started to feed, all the foaming stopped and this morning still no foam raising... already more than 8 hours since last feeding....

Understand that foaming will stopped somehow (anyone got scientific reason) but not sure why for so long... If I feed twice a day, don't need to skim already....

To what my understanding ,It too much air.

Reduce the air vale and increase the water level.

Redo the setting until able to get stable foam.

When feeding the will collapse it will foem back in 5 minute.

The Air valve is too big and putting too much air.

the air valve is the same as yours leh...i got the cheap jebao one lah..not your eheim kind..hehehehe

After the 1st post, reeflobang has been busy as usual...so DIY skimmer, DIY review also...hai....

After the 2nd wash on 1st september...

here are the skimmate produced...total of 7 days...

i think i have about a cup of thick kopi o already....slurp slurp....

overwhelming foaming effect...seems like i need to make a deflection ring for my next piece...

washed the collection cup and ready to go...10mins after washing...

a few bad things i notice with this new set...

1) no skimmate drip.have to wash it almost every week...very troublesome...

2) although skimmer is skimming, can be improved if the turbulence can be less...still in the midst of designing...

3) very little reaction time..will try either a bigger bottom box or taller reaction chamber...

4) standby spray-injector is quite redundant..if i run 1 pump for 1 spray=50W x 2, it will equal 100W...then might as well get joe's miniature beckett...but will still leave it there just in case of any upgrade...

5) deflection ring will be better..so that extra foam will not exit from the air outlet..

last but not least...my very own customised SPRAY INJECTOR....no need to clean or worry that dirt might get stuck inside...if anything that's big enough to get stuck in the injector, it will probably damage the pump 1st...
