Help On Mandarin

Recommended Posts

Yeah, mine is spot one. Just bought a net-box to put the fella in and also put MYSIS shrimp (frozen) in as well.... But, he just swim around didn't show any interest in the food??

Actually Mandarin and its spotted cousin feeds on pods (Copepods, Amphipods etc).

Some can be wean into taking Mysis such as the ones that Fuel kept. But most needs abundance pods inyour tank in order to survive.

Thus most literature advises against keeping Mandarins in a tank that has not mature as it will not be able to generate enough pods for the Madarin.

If however, your tank has been set-up for six months and again already and has lots of LRs, I would suggest you release it into the tank, you will notice it immediately heading towards your pile of LR in search of pods. :D

I noticed you have place it in a net box, are your training it to take mysis? If yes, then I think you should ask Fuel for more advice. ;)

I for one, just leave it to my pods to keep my Mandarin happy. ;)

I notice it helps if you off your water circulation and let the food sink to the bottom of the tank. Some of my newly acquired mandarins prefer to pick food from the floor rather than having to chase them.

Always something more important than fish.
