SRC Member LIM CHYE HUAT Posted December 13, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted December 13, 2004 my sump is rather small and inside the cabinet, can i place the skimmer outside , than extend the inlet hose through a hole at the back to the sump for the pump to drive. the hose will be about 1.5 to 2 meters long. will the extension of the hose to the drive pump affect the performance of the skimmer, i'm talking about macro needle wheel skimmer. the outlet will also be extend back to the sump, anyone tried that before please share your views and experiences. thanks. blueheaven
It depends on what type of skimmer you use Some skimmers are in sump units and some are ment for external placing I place my beckett externally too As for macro skimmers, so far I have not seen one that is external Quote But if you tame me, we shall need each other. SRC Member ervine Posted December 13, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted December 13, 2004 I think if the distance is horizontal distance not that bad, if ur hose going to go vertically then problematic... but not sure abt macro skimmers though... SRC Member FelixSu Posted December 14, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted December 14, 2004 length of hose rather long. try and reduce it as much as u can to lower water drag.
SRC Member dleecool Posted December 14, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted December 14, 2004 Hi, Wat's the width of the individual compartment? normal macro needle wheel r quite small to place in sump, it can also clip at the glass wall but the pump must be below the water level. weileong
You can raise the skimmer higher and use a bigger diameter return pipe. Use a Tee at the outlet just before the to prevent siphoning effect. Quote Weileong's 4ft tank Part I Weileong's 4ft tank Part II

You know of other effective way to get rid of the bubbles ? As i do not have a sump! thanks.. Quote [ My Humble Home]
