Frogspawn dying?

Hi,

Received an FOC Frogspawn from a fellow reefer today and when I put it into my tank after a while, I notice that there seems to some "smoke" coming out of it. Please see pic, is it normal? Do you think it is going to make it?

There is two scenario:

1) Frogspawn is spawning

2) Frogspawn is expelling Zoos

some corals had zoo inside them to enable self-feed.

if such zoos are gone, the corals will mostly die.

lighting is partly the condition needed for zoo to remain healthy.

So in dis case if it expel zoos, then it's not a good sign.

Corals expel zoos for many reasons. But as we all know zoos are algae with sybiotic relations ship with corals. The zoos get a safe place to adsorb lights to be converted into food for themself and also its host.

Expelling zoos could mean the corals is stressed, shock or the water params is different from what it is used to. If this is the case, the coral will look limp and will not open very much and slowly dies.

Healthy corals also expel zoos, they did it as a renewal process. Getting rid of the older zoos and welcoming newer zoos. When this happens the corals will usually be more vibrant after that.

I got a nagging feeling that your coral is not acclimatized fully causing it to be stressed and expel zoos. The only thing you can do is to ensure that it is not further stressed both by yourself or any other factor such as fishes or even water params.

When I got it this afternoon, it already has got some bleaching and now it seems to be expeling zoos and look limp. The other hammers and frogspawn are doing well in my tank. Do you think this one has got a good chance of survival? Is it more advisable to remove it now or risk spreading to my other healthy ones?

Sorry, where is the "smoke" you're refering to? Is it the part I outlined in red below? Looks more like the exposed skeleton to me.

Its a very hard decision to make since it as a gift from some one.

Try to observe some more loh, if it deteriorates further than "boh pian" throw loh, since your tank is still pretty new and might not be able to handle the die-off.

What you outlined red is receeding tissue.

But it's true. Sometimes I would smell the base of the rock before I buy just so to be sure that there are no rotting/decomposing stuff hidden.

buy corals and LRs are like buying durian...but its the reverse..the stronger the smell, the worse it is...

i smell my corals once in a while also..if i see that it is dying then i will observe for a few days, still cannot make it, smell it..rotting smell, throw away..no rotting smell, observe a few more days...
