polyps....????????

Zoos can mean

1) a place to view and learn about animals

2) Zooxanthallae, algae that have symbiotic relationship with Corals and clams

3) Zoanthids, soft corals that some called buttons

I guess you meant no 3.

Hi Charlie,

Actually in oredr to get nice colouration out of zoanthids, yoiu need to first select and purchase the "nice coloured" ones.

When I was a newbie, I used to buy brown and green zoanthids hoping that they will colour up. <_< But it never happens.

Finally decides to pay a little more for the nicer colored ones. It helps if you have friends that have keen eyes in spotting the nice coloured zoanthids. For me, I am blessed to have a few good buddies.

As for the husbandry, I dun really loose a sweat of them as I have place some in both high & low flow.

Water params is standard but I do dose lugol solution 2 drop every 3 days in my 400l tank.

HTH ;)

Star polyps belongs to the Pachyclavularia sp. as such are different from the Zoanthids.

I will recommand to dose something that can be measure! :D !!!

Damienkee is right, never dose anything in your tank if you dun have the test kts to measure it.

Its quite worrying to see that you are dosing so many stuffs twice weekly without testing your water.

Anyway, below are the general water params for a reef tank, I believe you need to be aware of:

Specific Gravity: 1.023 to 1.025

Temperature: 25 - 29 degrees celcius

pH: 8.1 to 8.4

Alkalinity: 8 to 12 dKH

Ammonia: Zero

Nitrite: Zero

Nitrate: < 1.0ppm

Phosphate: < 0.2ppm

Calcium: 350 to 450ppm

Magnesium: 1250 to 1350ppm

Strontium: 8 to 14ppm

Iodine: 0.06 to 0.10ppm

HTH ;)
