What does these terms mean?

often see people mention about 1/2 hp, 1/3 hp when they talk about chillers.

but what does that mean actually?

usually refers to the power rating of the compressor.

It can also refer to the cooling power.

is it 1/2hp for certain gallons? and 1/4hp for another?

HP means Horse Power

Of course you can use a 1/4 HP chiller in a huge tank but it'll probably chill non-stop.

Basically, like WL said, the higher the HP, the better the chilling power

1 H.P (Mechanical) = 12,000 BTU/hr

HP means "nothing" to me ... coz of other factors in the chiller that

contribute to the efficiency of the cooling power of the chiller.

1/4 HP from brandA might be as good as a 1/2 HP from brandB
