Gonioporas are very difficult to keep and require nutrient laden water

Although there's some recent breakthrough in keeping them, they still require expert care ;)

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

To me, you will be unique in all the world.

To you, I shall be unique in all the world...

You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

hi pple, i just bought a jewel. but it doenst open up fully like in the fish shop manz

is it cos the current too strong

just wondering.. do we nid to feed it?

They retract if flow is strong. Also if the light is very intense, they open smaller, but this is okay.

hi bro scs88,

try placing your gonio in an area of lower flow. there are lots of gonioporas that are endemic in reef enclaves that receive little flow, and will require such conditions similarly in a captive space. perhaps you can try to identify your goniopora species? if it has a semicircle-dome skeleton, its likely to be either goniopora stokesii or goniopora columna. the former will do well in moderate flow, with its tentacles continually swaying lightly, but the latter will need low flow. also, trying feeding your colony with some phytoplankton, oyster eggs, or golden pearls. these are great foods for gonios, though youll likely need a syringe and hard airline tubing to target feed it.

you can also use a magnet cleaner to wipe the glass sides of your tank more often, as this will suspend within the water column all the diatoms are other microalgaes which grow on the glass, and feed your gonio to some degree. take note too of their supposed need for higher iron levels.

here are some good gonio articles for you to check out.
