building a refugium

hi all, does anyone knows how to build a refugium in the sump tank?

usually people have a partition for that in the sump... why don't you show a foto of the sump then let us see from there...

I dun have a digi cam so can't post pic

i have a sump with 3 compartments, with the centre being the biggest. 1 skimmer on e left and right compartment. water from the tank comes in from the left, goes thru the centre compartment and then thru the right compartment before returning up to the tank.

then since the middle one is not in use why not just convert that into your refugium?

I believe u need caulerpa and and strong light on ur refugium. i also had frds whom they collected mangrove plant from the beaches and plane it in their refugium.

you also need a deep deep deep sand bed!!

i used a 3 foot tank to make the sump.

the centre compartment is half of the length, height-wise i think shld be sufficient as it is a standard tank tat was used to rear luohan.

got a sand bed abt10-15 cm thick.

wat type of plant do i put in if i want the sump to cultivate more bacteria as well as some plants tat remove nitriates?

MANY caulerpas or Mangrove plants. if can, try looking for lime stone. it can reduce nitrate greatly.
