hi there fiona fiona,

iodine is a constituent element of all living cells, though in a very small proportion, so it is necessary, but if you change water frequently enough, theres no real pertinent need to supplement iodine or iodide, which are chemical variants of each other, both serving a similar purpose.

for fish, i personally have not observed improved colouration as a result of iodine supplementation, which i used to do. soft corals though, might benefit more, as might hard corals, as iodine is used up by the symbiotic algal cells in these corals. proper iodine levels also ensures proper molting patterns for shrimps and crabs. all that said though, i still dont dose iodine:P
