Macro Skimmer Pump

Hey All,

I currently use a Macro Skimmer. The pump head pumps out 200 litres per hour. The pump head is spoiled and when I was told that I have to replace the whole skimmer. Is this true?

it depends on whether yours is the needlewheel or venturi version.

if it is the venturi version, easy.. just go find a pump with similar flowrate, should not be a prob.

but if its the needlewheel version, it'll be pretty hard to find something affordable as a replacement.

Yeah, unfortunately it is the needlewheel version. Can you recommend a venturi type skimmer which I can buy to replace my current one?

bro, that'll depend on your budget and your tank size and bioload. =)

there's been a ot of debate here,

but since you started with macro, you might wanna get a macro skimmer, but a venturi one. =)

needlewheel skimmer, if the needlewheel pump spoilt, can replace with a normal pump instead to convert it to a venturi version type???

just to share what i did when my pump was also spoilt some time ago...

i replace the pump with another which has higher flowrate... surprisingly, after a bit of modification and luck, the needlewheel impeller fits into the pump, and i am able to modify and put a venturi at the input of the pump... and now my skimmer skims better than ever!
