Getting Regal to eat?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I recently bought a regal angel but it's been a week or two and it's still not eating. I tried everything from brine shrip, mysis shrimp to blood worms and henry's food. Still no effect.

Anyone got similar experiences? Or are those seaweed things from two little fishes good?

Worried for the fellow cos it is down with ich (under control now with chem marine's stop parasites). Hope to get it to eat soon to build up it's strength.

All advice greatly apprciated.

Thanks

Hi Frosflame, got the same prob with my white belly regal last time. Now i fed my regal with nori, mysis, brine, henry food, flake but it take the regal sometimes to adapt to aquarium food. For my case took about more than 3 months to adapt to the food. Regular water change too will entice the regal to eat. Is there any other fishes is in ur tank that might make the regal not to eat such as wrasse or other fish that is aggresive or fast moving fishes as regal is a slow eater. Patience is the key to success in keeping regal.

Hi,

Try not to stare directly at regal angel, this will scared it even more and caused it to stop feeding.

Instead place the food near to its fav hiding area and only monitored casually(you facing at other places but eyesight sweep across).

Hope this helps. :D

Hi! care to share what is the water parameter?

you can try mincing fresh fish and prawn from market. clam helps as well.

live brine shrimp is good as well.

initially period you will have to feed few more times per day at different time. 7am, 9am, 11am, etc. keep a close eye on your water parameter and change water more frequently.

this is what i normally do to get the new fish started eating... :) cheers

Hi all, thanks for all your replies, unfortunately, my regal went up the lorry. Damn sad. I think my tank got some problem. Maybe not matured enough. The regal was killed by fin rot in less than 2 days despite using octozin. The other fishes, two hawks and a maroon clown are fine though.

Henry told me regals are a challange. Guess I won;t be buying anymore till I sort out my tank. Btw, I notice some white specks on the glass that seem to be alive and moving around. Anyone knows what they are?
