Hi guys

It's me again :lol: Planning to start a Seahorse tank next week... already acquired a 12G Nano Cube from a kind bro... as this is my first attempt on these amazing sea creature... I will be posting/updating frequently of my progress (as always) and hopefully can learn from experienced bros/sis along the way... :)

Not much pix to post as I will only collect the tank next week... so right now... perhaps I can share with you guys some of my plans and products I intended to use for this humble little setup...

Let's start from the bottom up... for substrate I am planning to use

Nature's Ocean Bio-Activ Life Aragonite Reef Sand... if what they claim is accurate... a 20lbs pack contains 4,000,000,000 beneficial bacteria inside :lol:

I need a good Live Sand bed as I don't plan to add much LR into the main tank... I will reveal my concept a little later (as I am still finalizing the concept).

My first question is... for a 12G NC (footprint approx. 13" by 12") what is the biggest amount (thickness in inches) of Live Sand? Most probably I am looking at a Deep Sand Bed system...

I will do a bit of research for the pros and cons of a DSB system as I've read numerous good and bad reviews about such system.

Nah the KUDA WORLD is gonna be my second only... PERCULA 90 @ home... this is @ office... so now I can reef day reef night :fear::ph34r::fear:

I will make sure I create a different setting for this one so that you guys don't get too bored with my tanks... I am also taking this opportunity to try out new products/methods... can't do much to my Perc 90 already as it is better not to do anything drastic to it :P

Hahaha... remaining Live Sand reserved :o

Now for water... I will transfer water from my Perc 90 (100%) to fill up the tank for the initial round... my Perc 90 is using Marine Environment Sea Salt and filtered tap water (PO4, NO2, NO3, NH4 undetectable/very minute).

For top up, I will "steal" water from my office Distilled Water dispenser :evil::evil::evil:

Any future water change will be mixed on site using Distilled Water... oh dear... I'm gonna mess up my office for sure :pinch:

Those "Sea Dragons" are available for reefers meh? This is a pix that roughly depicts the KUDA WORLD I will try to recreate... it can be fun and extremely natural looking... so that's my GOAL B)

I found this on www.liveaquaria.com... boy they do have a wide selection over there :unsure:

I learned that Seahorses change colour according to their background... so I will do more research to help determine the setting... perhaps a black background (of the Nano Cube) will not do good to the colouration of the Kudas ;)

Yupe I may go into that direction actually... this hobby may/may not be just about beauty and expensive rare specimens... it's also about understanding and recreating nature in a miniscule way... so there is so much more to read on Seahorses :lol:

The 12G Nano Cube is not going to be too tall... the most 13" <_< If required, I can always upgrade next time... say once they start to breed :lol: Can't wait to see a male SH pregnant :P

Bro... please do drop by often to give me advise... I am totally new to this... and this is the first tank I will not rely on technology... now that's gonna be a real challenge for me ;)

13" quite short for sh tank..... can do too ;)

:D once u see ur pair greeting each other once the tank light on.... courting and swimming together.... u gota up grade to at least 24" high tank.

any other equipment than live sand? :huh:

Oh talking about tech... I need to install a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to run at least the return pump... will change to an Aquabee (most probably)... my office is located in one of those old shophouses along Mohamed Sultan Road... along Madam Wong... and sometimes... disaster do happen :unsure:

Emm... so I can't do without a skimmer... haiz... it's gonna be difficult to fit the skimmer into the 12G NC without removing its hood... I know about the feeding requirement... that's why I need to cultivate enough food source before introducing them into the tank... also will only introduce non competing LS... will discuss with you guys about my planning on LS tomorrow :lol:
