Anyone using artificial coral

Recommended Posts

IMG_0503.jpg

Got them recently at the Singapore Garden Show! This distributor got them from Reef Depot, selling at same price.

It definitely adds colour to FOWLR tanks and non-reefers won't be able to tell the difference. Last weekend saw a different range of artificial corals and artificial LR(limited variety) at Marina Square. The tank designer shop at IMM opened a new branch there.

I have a tank full of Natures Image corals in my New FOWLR tank. I have not put any fish in there yet but u can check it out at the members tank and specs forum.

Main problem now is that phosphates is too high and I have an algae bloom problem that I have to sort out. Dont relish having to clean my "SPS" (Synthetic Polynmer Specimens !!)

i am attaching a pic of the tank below.

I dont glue the corals onto the rock as I expect to have to remove the "SPS" for cleanning.

Some of the corals actually float at first but become less bouyant later. U have to stick such specimens into the rock.

Hi Earth,

Dont exactly know how much because I didnt buy it all at once but in about 3 or 4 batches. Its definitely more than $1k.

Almost have the entire catalogue in the tank.

I overdid it as I am planning to put Angel safe corals like fingers, leather corals, mushrooms, elephant ears in the tank too.

Have not put any fish in the FOWLR tank yet and I am chronicling the whole set up in the Members and tanks specs forum.

Check it out at http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=55446

I'm think of getting the Fiji or Tonga collection, which one looks better? Individual piece add up very x.

Fiji

http://reefdepot.com.sg/AddProduct.asp?ProdID=859

Tonga

http://reefdepot.com.sg/AddProduct.asp?ProdID=858

I actually bought mine individually n did not buy either collection so i dont know for sure which ones are in the packages.

But looking at the list for both the Fiji n Tonga collection, I would go for the Tonga collection as I recognise some of them r the more realistic ones like the gold acropora, blue merulina, yellow blue porites, purple table acropora, n d star fish group is d bigger ones with d chocolate chip starfish.

I also don't glue mine, surely will need to scrub them sooner or later.

Mine started to grow algae and I was thinking when to scrub them. But after replacing my phosphate remover media, the algae disappeared.

What is phosphate remover media? Is it for removing the PO3 in tap water?

Phosphate remover media such as Phosban, Sorb4, Rowaphos are chemical media that absorb PO4 from water. U place the media in a filter bag between filter wool where there is direct water circulation or u use a fluid reactor to allow as much of the water to have contact with the media.

I guess u could use it to remove PO4 from tapwater b4 mixing salt but most people use it to reduce or remove PO4 from their tank.

Do you place it in a bag and place inside your filter canister? For how long? And when should it be replaced? :thanks:
