Sea hare,whats their average life span

Hi,

Just to share, I have a black sea hare. It was in my tank for 4 months without any problems. But something attacked it, and it leached purple dye from it's body.

I caution you to be careful, as the sea hare can discharge this chemical into your tank when provoked.

I do not know if it is poisonnous as it died near the skimmer, and the discharge got skimmed.
