Have a look at my bubble...need advice

My green bubble has been with me for 3 weeks.

Used to expand very nicely, but in the last 2 days, some of the bubbles in one small corner of the coral not expanding like they used to. All tentables are still extending well, even around the area that's not expanding.

Water parameters all good. Flow has not changed, but lighting has changed, with me adding 2 x 24W white lights to a total of 6 tubes.

Also noticed 2 small circular bare spots on the flesh of the bubble coral with 2 lines sticking of it, around the area that's not expanding. Are these parasites or something?

What's causing this area of the bubble to stay small? But tentables still extending nicely?

Temp 25-26

pH 8.3

kH 10.2-11.3

Ca 420

PO4 0

NH4 <0.25 (Lowest reading on Salifert)

NO3 10ppm

SG 1.025

Hi bro,

I agree with Rockyboy, I believe its showing tentacles and mouth due to its feeding respond - either its hungry or it sense there's food in the water column.

HTH ;)

So it looks healthy then? Just too much flow to that specific corner...

Yup, it extends the tentacles in response to food, even the corner which is not expanding as it used to. Strangely though, coz it lasted 3 weeks in that area...

Can it be your dosing of suppliment casing it not to open?

When I dose lazy without mixing with the tank water and dose slowly, my elegance will not open too.

My dosing slowly after mixing. Don't think that's the problem...

Think I've figured out why. I was topping up my tank water with salt mix (newbie error)...so without my knowing, SG had crept up to 1.026. I had always assumed it was maintained at 1.024-1.025.

So I brought the SG down slowly over a day to 1.024 by diluting with DI water...and over the next 3 days, the bubbles have extended fully :D

Hi bro,

You are right, too high SG will cause the polyp to receed. Thanks for sharing. ;)

but i've check several sites and they recommend 1.026 for most inverterbrates,is it different for the green bubble?

mine also having problem now, the entire thing shrink to a small mass of tentacles, was worried so i drop it into my refugium and 1 small prawn a day and now opening up a little bit better, but definately nowhere as nice as last week,

parameters have not change, i always log my tests. except was having abit of a problem with the temperature, went up to 28, for a day but that was after the bubble was already acting weird. and i cant really reduce the salinity as i have an octopus sharing the same tank water

Hi bro,

Not to worry. Your bubble is doing find. Is just that when bubble is in blue light they normally open up and extent their tenticle to capture food.

Just like when the aquarium light is off in the night. Its bubble natural behaviour.

i'm not sure if my bubble will recover, i put in for 3 days in my refugium and it bubble up but half of it seems gone, i only see tissue but no bubbles or tentacles, then i took it out to smell, no foul smell also, but got brown patches on the skeleton ,scrub that off as i read that it might cause irritation , then out it back into the main tank where the flow is slow, half of it bubble up nicely but the other half still a mass of small green tissue, dont know if it'll survive not, the rest of my lps ( octos, galaxea, tongue, ) softies ( hairy mushroom, yumas, discosomas, gsp, pipe organ, glove ) sps (acropora, hyrdopora) all doing well except this green bubble,

i really duno whats the cause for it
