Help on Protein Skimmer

Recommended Posts

All bros here, I need some advise.

I am new to marine. Currently, I have a 3 ft tank currently using air driven cheapo skimmer. I intend to upgrade to a venturi driven skimmer with a budget not more than $220. I do not have a sump and wants to have the PH outside to avoid heat in tank and to save space.

Can any experience reefer advise me?Currently, I have the following skimmer/comnination in mind, any comments?

Prism Skimmer (Not pro version)

Weipro 2011 coupled to a Eheim 1260

Weipro 2012 Couple to Eheim 1260 (Slightly Taller then 2012)

Sharkbait,

I have check the Sicce Extrema but it seem to me that it is an internal PH rather than an external one. What will happen if a 1260 is used? ( I have lobang for a reasonably cheap 1260 and it can be later be used in a canister as I am also into arowanas)

Your advise please, Thanks in advance

I got a 2011 back(without paying) from LFS to check for space, it look ok think can accomodate a 2012 as it is only taller. As for the 2013 onwards looks "towering" as it will sit level besides the 3 ft tank.

Chances of me going beyond this 3 ft is slim unless I give up on arowananas.

Can i assume that 2012 will do the job or get the 3 models back home from LFS to check.

Thanks Ozy and Sharkbait

Guys,

Its me again. I am back to the starting point.

The Weipro is not able to be hooked onto he sideof my tank as I have bracing (1.5 inch). I cannot hang it on the back as the tank is against a wall. I then thought of sitting the skimmer beside the tank(by extending the outlet pipe higher) but was told the outlet level cannot be higher that the water level mark. Is that true.

If the weipro cannot be used due to my constraints is there any recommendations for other skimmers (besides Prizm, which confirmed can be hung oon the side of the tank).

PS: mY budget is $220 including a external pump( to avoid heat and to save space in the tank)

Thanks.

sorry to hijack the thread...but where should be the correct water level in the weipro skimmer in order to produce kopi-o? i am using a 2011 and i am only getting green tea :(

I am using 2014 and I adjust the water level to be slightly below the black O-ring.
