Hi all,

Im new to this hobby and after reading and browsing thru the forum and saw all the beautiful set-up

by the Pro here, i have decided to setup a nano tank.

I will be using my 2X1X1.5 tank for the set-up and will partition the side for the IOS.

Need help on the following.

What type of skimmer is suitable ( Brand / Model) ?

The skimmer have to be hang at the back of the tank.

What do you all normally use for the filtration?

What type of lighting is suitable? Is T5 enough.

I intend to keep some corals and few fishes.

Hope to get some feedback and info from some of the Pro here.

hi bro,

firstly, welcome to this expensive hobby! haha

are you planning to get a sump for your tank? i personally would recommend you to have a sump due to the below reasons.

1) larger volumn of water

2) able to hide unsightly equipts in the sump

3) possibility to have a refugium or scrubber system

there are only a few hangon skimmers that are good for a 2ft tank like yours. I use to run a Red Sea Prizm for my decom 2ft and i am happy with its performance..

Also, T5 will be sufficient depending on what kind of corals are you keep. i would recommend 4*24 T5HO...

cheers,

Ray

Hi Bro,

Thanks for reply, and yes this is an expensive hobby :eyebrow:

Im not using a sump tank for my set-up as im goin to diy

a IOS on the side of the tank. i have already partition up the IOS on the side

of my tank and waiting for the silicone to cure. Will post my diy IOS soon and hope

to get some feedback on it.

As for the prizm skimmer that you mention, where can i get it and any particular model.

As for the T5 Ho light set, where to get it.

Intend to keep some mushies and zoas.

ah.. no worries.. you can check out pasah malam to find good deals for your skimmer and lights.. =]

check out the below link for more info of the skimmer

http://www.aquamarin.com.sg/productsDetail.asp?productid=849

otherwise most LFS sells lights for 2feet T5 as well..

zoas and mushies should do well in your tank considering they are quite hardy corals...

cheers,

Ray

there was an aquamedic bioflotor and tunze 9002 nano skimmer out in the forum recently. think that would be great.

raydiative's recommendation for the Redsea Prizm will work too

i got it myself , also same as you did a diy ISO in my 2 ft tank but obky after CNY then able to set up

U can consider that dymax nano skimmer...looks exactly like Tunze nano which i saw it at Reborn. Hope still have.

But dun get Prizm...the reviews are not that favourable...go for Aqua C better.

Manage to get some pic on my diy IOS tank and did some test on the tank.

Give full inspection on the tank to see if theres any leaking as its an old tank.

Let the water run for few hours on the 3000L/H pump as my return pump from the IOS.

So far theres no leak and drain away the water and prepare for the new begining.

Bro,

Dose live bacteria into your tank to help with yr recycling.

There are a few recomendations: FritzZyme #9, Turbo Start and Reefmax bacteria.

Nice rockscaping.

I think if you go to LPS like iwarna or GO, your tank will be filled up in quick time...haha..and you will want to upgrade to a bigger tank.

Thank bro...hmmm will wait till the cycle end and c how much can stock in....will c if i can handle my nano tank first, then

will sure to upgrade.... :P
