best way to cover tank top

what u guys think is the best way to cover the top of the tank to avoid salty fishes..

was thinking of using eggcrates since they r use as light diffuser too.

any other suggestions?

Eggcrate is an ideal choice for covering. The vents are small enough to prevent jumping fish and big enough for light and air circulation.

you can try using the mesh the other bros here use for their scrubber too.. will prevent small fishes from becoming salted fish as well..

hmmm.. i do get wad you mean... but i think it should be fine.. as the thickness of the mesh is not that big.. dun think it will affect much.. but then again, i'm not too sure.. =]

Note that for small holes, dust will accumulate faster and you need a gap for feeding.

I'm using eggcrates. My T5s sit on top of my bracing, and the eggcrate sit on top of them. I cut out holes in the eggcrate to allow my MH pendant to fit through.

Touch wood, haven't lost a wrasse since I started doing that, and I have more than 10 scooting around.

i mean is ur tank euro bracing or normal reinforced??

its more logical to make the fish want to stay in the tank than prevent it from jumping out of e tank..

fairy wrasses.

euro bracing have,with standard kinda hood,however..

i read that some fairy wrasse during mating season they will chiong around,sometimes even chiong out of water.. resulting in salty fish!

btw bro amby. normally wrasse r the jumpers in tanks.. they will jump as and when they like. no why also.

Wrasses, hawkfish (longnose), fire/flame gobies.

All these are well known for jumping out of tanks.

i notice my yellow wrasse love swimming at the surface of the water. sometimes soo surface until part of the body come out of the water. i dunno why its doing this. cannot be my water no oxygen. good circulation, overflow, thus oxygen should be quite ok. and also dun have any fish gasping for air occasionally, can hear splash. dunno if my wrasse will jump out or not anyone got this thing? haha. wrasse sometime swim at surface

If you read any website about wrasses, they will surely advice that you have a tight fitting cover over the tank. Otherwise you're sure to lose your newest acquisition.

Although I do hope one of my wrasses will jump out. Save me the trouble of catching him

what kind of wrasse u keep? haha. they super hard to catch once u put inside ur tank. impossible one. must tear ur whole tank down -__- hide inside sand wa....must use trap. but most too clever for traps. (:

wrasse hard to catch right? i tried catching my yellow wrasse to sell away...but impossible -.- even after i tore down my tank for a rescape, also cannot catch -.- dunno it hide in the sand where....so i gave up liao la. now inside my tank lolz.

wa...i keep yellow wrasse and cleaner wrasse, then i come here see u all keep these exotic and expensive wrasses. im unfit to come here

bro, the trick to catch them is.. make them used to feeding from the top of the tank,then feed in a empty betta box..

after awhile they will chiong in when use to it.. then after that the rest will follow.. gd luck!

Yeah man. Tried for 2-3 weeks with feeding in betta box, put my corals inside also cannot. Now give up liao.

the swim normally nid to swim a certain distance b4 they can jump

since u already got euro bracing it shld minimise e area to cover on e sides..

is ur tank hooded ?
