pH Drop At Night

Recommended Posts

Hi SRC members, My 2ft tank pH drop from(7.8 to 7.55) at night, is it normal for pH to drop when nights off?

Currently I start to use buffer to slowly increase my pH to 8.1 over the next few days, what is the ideal range of pH?

Tks

Its normal to drop in the night. takes 2-3 days for ph to increase after adding buffer.

Less than 7.8 is too low. What's your salinity?

My latest test results

pH 7.55 to 7.82

No3 20ppm

Po4 0.03ppm

Calcium 480ppm

KH 8

Salinity 1.023

Temp : 27 to 28deg

Kindly advise me on the above test result.

My No3 as high as 160ppm and Po4 reach its peak during the past 3week cos my fishes dead due to power cut off.

Now, with all the advise from the expert here, the results is ok I guess.

I start to use Tunze 9002 skimmer, Sorb4 in my canister, dose AZ-NO3 to my 2 ft tank, add in ph buffer 3 days back, change 30% water every 3 to 4 days,

top-up using distiled water, dose Coral Vital LSB(increase benefitial bacteria)

Tks Bro. I will dose pH buffer daily to increase pH, but how to drop calcium? So I stop dose calcium liquid to my tank is it?

Sometimes your pH is suppressed at night due to respirations which resulted in high co2 and thus low pH. The safest way to address this problem is to provide more aeration at night by using a air pump that is time to comes on in your sump when lights off.

Dosing to much pH buffer may cause ionic imbalance.

Sorry I do not have a sump tank. How abt add in another wave maker?

Well ventilated room with wave maker pointing towards the water surface or a small fan blowing on the water surface should do the trick as well. Personally, I will try these methods before I use buffers.

Another method is to replace evaporated water nightly with water mixed with kalkwasser and dripping into the tank, I prefer this method as I find it:

1) Safer (Will not cause ionic imbalance compared to other method)

2) Cost effective (Cheaper)

3) Lesser work (I need to replenish Fresh water anyway. Also, I need not worry about individual dosing of kh, ph, mg, ca)

Magnesium will help to maintain yr calcium level. Some strontium will also help..but that's optional. Strontium is also supplementary for LPS corals.

Lower pH means lesser toxic ammonia while maintaining yr temp at 27-28.

So long yr pH is stable. Too much fluctuations your corals will kaput...:sick:
