Those clams that we eat.... the light brown one with smooth shell and "see hum" (cockle), can we keep them in the tank? Are those we buy from NTUC is alive or dead?

keep it when u need it......... , jus nees some hot water it tastes GOOD......

Can.. But only in coldwater marine tank if I'm not mistaken... Just like the Market Prawn and most edible marine creatures... Coldwater marine Aquarium and not our normal Tropical ones....

I dunno anybody who keeps a coldwater tank in Singapore but I guess it'd be pretty cool....

Cockle needs fine mud and the other clam will be quite happy to burrow into coral chips.

I only know theoretically that they live on coastal mudflats, whatever that is, and is harvested in malaysia and thailand. Singapore's mangrove still have a few.

Anyone bothered to keep them before?

It depends on how long you want to keep them. These are filter feeders like scallops. See the flame scallop thread.

Unless your tank is in the same condition as the sewers, they will not survive.

I have tried keeping mussels before in the attempt to experiment if they will absorb trace metals and toxins in the water.

Either it was very successful and they absorbed every toxin in the water and died or they starved to death.

aesthetically they are not appealing....keep it in the refugium? will it pollute the water?
