Stainless Steel pumps

Hi guys,

I am thinking of buying a pump that uses 316 stainless steel wetted parts. Wondering if these will rust? Anyone has any experience with 316 being in constant contact with seawater?

Also what are the wetted parts of Iwaki pumps made of?

316 SS will still corrode but slower. It will not be good for sea water.

Iwaki pump wetted part are made of plastic as they are chemical pump. No metal comes incontact with the water.

Thank you morgan. That was what I thought but the salesgiral keeps assuring otherwise.

316 stainless steel is resistant to saltwater to some extent but in an oxygen rich brine solution the metal will eventually corrode but in a gradual rate over a year or more.

Iwaki pump casing and impeller are made of polypropylene plastic, ceramic bearings and bushing with no metallic part in contact with the fluid at all. Your water though must be free of abrasive particles like fine sand or you'll wear out the pump very fast.

yup...in States that have the T4 velocity pumps which are 316 SS (i think) ..but there is also this issue of calcium deposit on metal which renders definite maintenance...

i salute iwakis too!!...rite robe??test the pump yet??it is a monster!

No have'nt tested it yet. I think my tank would overflow. Have u tested it already?

din dare to connect to my tank...will outrun the 1inch drain!!!..but i've run them with a pail of water...much stronger than i've expected!
