  1. Max, there are a lot more to the temp at the colletion sites than that. You are merely taking 2 absolute points and simplistically joining them with one straight line. Doesn't work out that way.
  2. I was there when they were unpacking that lot of fish. I told Linda that that was not the real peppermint, and also told her the proper name. It seems that in their opinion, the words of their Ph supplier holds more weight than mine
  3. Kunta heard wrongly. Or that farm owner gave out wrong info.
  4. Try Hanna Instruments, they have a presence locally, I think.
  5. I use the ion specific probe to measure for calcium, magnesium and *cyanide*. Quite accurate for Ca/Mg. Cyanide meter useless for hobbyists LOL. Meter costs a few hundred $. Do not quite remember exactly how much, bought too long liao. IMO, waste of money to spend such items on meauring NH3. You are not supposed to have them in your tank in any appreciable amounts anyway. Will it help if you know you have 57ppm of NH3 +- 1 ppm in your tank, or if you just know you have 40-60ppm of NH3?
  6. I did some research when the same item was offered to me before. That was about 1 mth ago. My conclusion, Gnathophyllum americanum is NOT reef safe.
  7. Do moderators also get yellow carded for insulting innocent visitors, albeit not so blatantly?
  8. minimalistic? Looks very crowded leh. Or is it the occupants who spoilt the concept?
  9. Nah, long way to go compared to the "most exp" one. Peppermint only cost "k"s.
  10. No chance for a peppermint to be only $350. You saw another angel.
  11. White cheeked, Acanthurus nigricans, should be left in the seas. It is obvoius at point of collection and tanking that the overwhelming majority will not do well in the home aquarium. Lets not tempt fate and think that we might just be one of the very lucky few who can keep them alive.
  12. Of those common ones, I will rank in order of ease to weene to frozen food, with the most easy first on the list: Truncate Dispar Tricolor Bicolor Lyretail Sq Spot Assumption is the application of "properly-sized" food.
  13. The really smart ones will not eat poo in the first place
  14. Getting a little farstretched aren't we I will love to see a water-top-up driven by this monster. It will definitely take the focus off the reef tank Lets get back to reefing
  15. This diy food, if successful, will drive the arine food industry into bankruptcy PS: Remember to take lots of cod liver oils capsules before "feeding"
  16. We need a certified power engineer to comment on this. But to my limited knowledge, if there is indeed a ac short to the tank, the presence of a ground probe will immediately induce a earth leakage trip in the house. If somehow the ground probe is improperly installed or dislodge, it is a definite cause for electrocution. For this reason, all respectable commercial top-ups are dc driven. Cost savings are good, but it must be done properly.
  17. Just came back from lunch. Good post-lunch entertainment.
  18. james72 , This hobby has seen enough of senseless and unneccessary deaths, lets not intentionally create more. I believe your experimental spirit will be put to better use, *after* you spend some time following tried and tested paths, when you have learnt some basics and know which paths are not even worth exploring. If you still believe in experimenting right from the start, there will only be a group of people laughinh their way to the bank, the lfs and their LS suppliers. And to the above quote, my big fat hairy ######
  19. I mean zooplankton (amphipods, mysis, copepods, rotifers etc), not zoanthids
  20. Aiyo, so free culture zoo lah. Then you will really appreciate why I am such a strong advocate of alga paste. Besides zoos are a lot more fun, you can see them without having to use a scope
