Newbie 12G Nanocube

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Ive just bought the 12G jbj nanocube.

Ive read reviews to ditch the ceramic rings and bioballs that comes with it.

What is the best material for replacement of the ceramic rings and bio-balls?

Crushed live rocks? Is a skimmer needed for a 12G?

Please advice

Hi and welcome to SRC :)

biohomme is the best replacement media for ceremic rings

a skimmer will always be good to have to increase oxygenation as well as waste removal in a small tank.

As to your question in my tank thread, Karlyau has answered perfectly. You can contact dr evil who is one of our sponsor here (de-lightings).

Cheers

i would also recommend http://www.reinbiotech.com/biohome/biohome.jsp <-- biohome +.

skimmer will be good to have (else you will need to keep change water to keep nitrate and phosphate down)

Filtration can be (Surface skimmer -> filter wool (<--- change frequently if not nitrate will shoot up if left un-touched as food might be stuck there and decompose)carbon (seachem carbon would do $6 can get) -> biohome + (1kg $38 at clementi c328)->skimmer (this can be left blank if you change water frequently but it's a good to have) -> pump back to tank.

above are just my suggestion (thats how my 12G filtration goes)

dosing off bacteria would also be recommended

can try:

-http://www.aquamarin.com.sg/productsDetail.asp?productid=1223 (can be brought at Marine life/aquamarin e.t.c

or

-http://perso.ovh.net/~prodibio/index.php?file=produits&fc=detail&eau_id=2&id=3 (biodigest) which can be brought at petmart e.t.c

hope this helps bro :)

i used a fan to cool the water to around 27 degree but must keep topping up water everyday (but must take out the hood for it to work)

Yup,thats the basic carbon that i find it cheap and useful.

if you can, email edmund, he might be able to buy it for you and ship to you haha as his customer oriented. :)

else you can get your friend to buy it from you at Clementi Block 328,there's a fish shop there that sells $38 1kg(not sure whether you need that much :P)

Is your inquiry about the 110W maxspect meant for your 12G tank? It will be overpowered haha. I think the tank is only 12 inch deep or shallower, even the Maxspect 60W will be more than enough.

My 1.5ft nano cube

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

+1.

For skimmer, personally I would go for remora nano over tunze 9002.

Tunze 9002 requires too much maintenance.

but you would need to check the dimension of the skimmer though to see if it fits.

Which skimmer would you recommend for my 12G~? that can be kept under the hood.

if keep under the hood, i'm not sure even tunz9002 can fit in (you must do the measurement yourself)

else get a normal airstone skimmer.

If without hood,

1) redsea prizm skimmer

2) Tunze 9002 skimmer

3) Aquac remora skimmer

4) Deltec hang on skimmer MCE300

Best bet would be remora of MCE300...

hi guys,

I just bought the API saltwater test kit.

Comes with whole lot, nitrate, nitrate, ammonia, ph tester type.

There isnt any expiry date on it. But i can see some numbering dates of 2008 & 2006 on different bottles~

On an average basis how long can those test kit be kept b4 it expires?
