SRC Member desideria Posted January 21, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted January 21, 2011 Hello guys, this is the first time I'm trying a Marine PICO tank.. and in office.. SO within 2-3 days of getting my boss's permission of putting in a tank ( he knows i am fishy mad), I got myself a Dymax IQ5 13L acrylic tank setup from PetMart in Sereangoon. I bought live sand and threw in ( although I know it's overkill) a capsule of Prodibiodigest mixed it around. As I have a ready supply of salt water from my 4 footer, I just mixed water from there as well as ready made RO/DI water with salt, and bought a small rock from RB and voila.. I'm up and running my tiny tank! I decided to add in a Tunze Universal Mini Pump to give a bit more current as the output is simply not enough in my personal opinion. At least I can see my corals waving a little rather than still all the time. The temp in my office for my tank is quite low.. about 24 to 25 degrees. I assume that on weekends it will go up to at most 26-27 degrees in the tank. So.. it ain't so bad. Here's some pic as of Day 5. LOL Quote Cheers, Desi Sheldon (TBBT): A little misunderstanding? wilsontantw
Nice wor. Zoas looks good in Pico. Hammer looks. Little stressed. Hmm how abt super sun? Think it'll look good with regular WC, should be easy to maintain? And no fish?? Quote decommissioned 2.5x2x2 Videos: | | Your mind is like a parachute. It only works when it is open. SRC Member desideria Posted January 21, 2011 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 21, 2011 I just got the hammer last night... from GO.. Fragged it and took 2 heads to office.. hope it settles over the weekend and next monday when I come back... it will be as right as rain. I really hope I don't come back to a cloudy tank.. it would be sadness personified...yeah trying to find a super sun but nowadays super suns are hard to find.. oh well... I plan to do Regular WC every monday .. because I do WC for my 4 footer every sat/sun.. so on monday morn i'd take like 1L from my main tank and change water... . hah Quote Cheers, Desi Sheldon (TBBT): A little misunderstanding? SRC Member iskay Posted January 21, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted January 21, 2011 Heavily infect with reefing bug. What's next? Convert the boot of your car to a tank? Terry's Lotilia graciliosa will be a good addition. NPS on a pico = change water everyday. NPS needs lots of feeding to do well and that will quickly pollute the water. Maybe you've already planned out how to sustain this tank so take my comment with a pinch of marine salt. Cheers. Quote "Be formless... shapeless, like water. SRC Member desideria Posted January 21, 2011 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 21, 2011 I"d let the mystery reefer reveal himself when the time comes... LOL Yeah Iskay I know supersuns needs lots of feeding.. had them before. That's why I would like to add to my pico but that means MORE WC!!! ... anyway since theres none available... then forget it la... anyway I want this tank to be as fuss free as possible since all my time is on my 4 footer ...office tank shouldn't take too much time except for the STARING.. HAHAHA Quote Cheers, Desi Sheldon (TBBT): A little misunderstanding? Galileo and the Pope had a little misunderstanding...

Anyway, dimensions i think is 275mm(L)x223mm(W)x295mm(H). The filter media chamber is not very big but after emptying it, we managed to put in 1 kg pack of chemipure, top with some white sponge. SRC Member peacemaker Posted January 21, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted January 21, 2011 Desi, you may need to install a fan and set it with a digital timer for weekends. If you switch off the AC, temperatures can go up to 34oC, depending if your office face any direct sunlight or not. That's how it is for my office tank. wilsontantw
Rhizo can grow quite big right? Not if you get a small one. The tentacles would extend much like a torch. But I love the pinkish coloration. Mine's in a bad shape now. I last dumped it in a corner in the holding tank. Not even sure if it is still alive. Put it in my tank, please.... Hmmm. In ur Pico tank it'll be a center piece. But do u really want it?? Quote decommissioned 2.5x2x2 Videos: | | Your mind is like a parachute. It only works when it is open. Guest
I strongly recommend adding some "Sexy " shrimp into your pico .. It is very fun to see them wigging their tail at you
SRC Member tunicate Posted January 21, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted January 21, 2011 I stopped using the Tunze Universal Mini Pump in my office tank as it contributed too much heat over a non-aircon weekend. If you have a webcam, hook it up to your PC to take a photo of your tank's thermometer every hour over the weekend for 1st few weeks of monitoring. It gave me a pretty good idea of how the water temperature in my office tank fluctuates over a non-aircon weekend. (Note: May-July period tends to be warmer.) SRC Member desideria Posted January 21, 2011 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 21, 2011 thanks tuni for the heads up... I shall take note.. well unfortunately I have left it on.. I"d see how it goes on MOnday. This weekend will be the litmus test for my little pico and see how it fares when I come back to office on Monday morning. Or what i"d do in the future is on the pump monday to friday and off on weekends.. hahah My desk has no sun as i'm smack in the middle of the office not near any window or anything and the office is very big and open so ventilation no issue. Hey Larry,.. I thought of sexy shrimps.. lol what do they eat? I'm thinking of adding a purple firefish and .. well that's it.. unless I can find a nice feeding clown goby to throw in... Otherwise I wont add any other fish. Quote Cheers, Desi Sheldon (TBBT): A little misunderstanding? Galileo and the Pope had a little misunderstanding... SRC Member tunicate Posted January 22, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted January 22, 2011 Talk about sexy shrimp, I bought 4 for my office tank last August. This is what happened... Put in 1st one (I called it the Scout). It gave me the all clear sign after 2 weeks. Put in the remaining 3 (I called them the Main Body). A few days later, I noticed a bobbit worm coming out of a piece of LR, creeping towards one of the shrimps. With its tail held high waving, its like saying, "Hi! I'm over here. My name's Ah Boon. What's yours?" Needless to say, Main Body disappeared over one weekend. Scout managed to held out for an extra week before it too left without a trace. Funny thing is I've kept those LR for past 3 years & never once did the worm hinted its presence. Sigh ....

I just added two " Clapping shrimp" inside my own nano tank as well, and it definitely fun to see them clapping their "Hands" for you every day encouraging you in work lol

SRC Member desideria Posted January 26, 2011 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 26, 2011 This is just an upload to keep track of my pico... Temp shot up over the past weekend and my hammer and 2 mushies had melted over the weekend. So this week i'm gonna leave the lid off and turn off the mini pump during the weekends... it's awfully cold in my office right now and the temp is about 24.7 with everything on. I would like to add a purple firefish and that's it to the pico... what do you think? Got it already but it's in the sump of my main tank in a big betta box... probably wait till CNY Is over before putting him in otherwise no food for the long weekend.
