They are filter feeders and are very hard to keep alive. Most will just waste away. For advanced hobbyists only.

Not to run on your parade bro but they're more likely to starve themselves to death and not very much to look at. They'll just swim on that dark corner of the tank til they die. There are about 1 out of 10 owners who'd be lucky enough to keep these softies alive for months.

New developments in reefing products have made it quite possible. The food to feed them is available, it now depends on the diligence of the reefer to keep flame scallops alive. Some recommendations you should try are Phytofeast Live from Reef Nutrition, Ultra Clam from Fauna Marin or even Shellfish Diet from Reed Mariculture. Daily feedings are necessary and you will have to monitor your water conditions well while feeding so much food.

Always something more important than fish.

They are filter feeder and only take in food of a certain micron size... One point to note even if they seems to be eating, some of the food that they take in are filtered out without being digested and used if they dun feel like eating it...

Keeping them is not impossible but the amount of target feeding and dedication to get them to a healthy state is not what every reefer would want to do...

I have bought 1 piece and thot it died in the rocks until 1 day I decided to move the rocks around and saw it alive.......the way they hop around is cute.......there was once I saw it stick out 1 long tongue to support itself on the glass wall while hanging about a few inches above sandbed.......erm.....I din target feed anything.......

That is what they typically do.. It will wither away in a few month without feeding..

Wow. You dug out a very old thread. I used to keep. As mentioned, very hard to maintain. Wasted away after couple of weeks. Managed to enjoy its awesomeness for a while. Still think it's better to leave them in nature to continue this species.
