Blue or white lighting contribute more algae?

Recommended Posts

A very stupid question to check with bro here. Which lighting do u think would contribute on the algae grow? Blue or white lighting? Please advise.

For currently, in my nano tank, there is two PL lighting. One bulb tube consists of white and blue and the other bulb is just blue and blue. Therefore, i am wondering is it becos due to the two blue blue lighting instead of blue and white lighting contribute to the grow of algae.

normally, 6k - 10k spectrum will spur more alage growth bcoz this is closer to the spectrum of natural light. Blue is more for aesthetic purpose to bring out the colours of corals and fishes.

if u want to control the algae growth, there are many methods, which will take me a couple of pages to write them all down. So, its better for u to read up on your own. Running rowaphos is one of the common methods deploy by reefers.

in reality, there is no way u can stop algae growth completely 100%....but wat we try to achieve is to retard their growth to some level that is manageable....that does not cause our tanks to look ugly and our corals to be cover by algaes...

Yes I think so too, the light doesn't have anything to do with algae spawning your tank. :friends:

Lighting do play a part in algae blooming if water condition is not in proper  !

Algae generally need carbon dioxide, nutrients (Nitrate, Phosphate, Calcium, etc...), and light. Deprive them of either will reduce their growth rate. Reefers generally try to control the nutrient component.
