SRC Member william_choo Posted June 23, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted June 23, 2011 Yes,it will occasionally get rid of it.best is to scurb it off.faster and efficient conventional method. For me,I just use a penknife to cut it inside the water, and the skimmer will do the rest. Yes, I bought peppermint shrimps for aptasias. VERY effective (or maybe I had been lucky so far), but I usually buy at least in pairs when I need to clear aptasia, then I sell off in this forum cause at the moment demand is quite high. BTW peppermints are super hardy, had my tank crash once and the peppermints were alive even after some fishes died....

They will come back more and strong.. If really wan to scribe then scribe from the base rock try not to disturb the body.. Try Iwarna, LCK201 or CF for peppermint shrimp.. CFOh
thanks! appreciate it! exactly they multiply extremely fast. meanwhile gonna try my luck tomorrow with Aquamarin. Try kalkwasser zap with syringe first... very convenient & economic... don't rush.. and remember to acclimatise newly bought shrimp before adding to yr tank... other than that peppermint shrimp is very hardy shrimp.. I think the LCK201 has, CF has, Irwana has also, one of the sponsors M3Morph also has on their web. But many reefers suffer from aiptasia problems, so it does get traded as a hot commodity in the buy/sell thread. And remember to acclimatise them as CFOh mentioned, quite important for all shrimps. Any precaution we should take against peppermint? turned aggressive? attack other corals? Does not attack aiptasia after accquiring taste for fish food? Does not attack aiptasia after accquiring taste for fish food? peppermint shrimp shld be fine if compare to Skunk cleaner shrimp.. They do potential grab food from coral but not as nasty compare to Skunk cleaner. And peppermint shrimp will help cleaning fish as well.. also they are pretty shy.. other than that beside the outlook, I think peppermint shrimp is a good choice. Cheers.. FuEl
If you are talking about the actual peppermint shrimp, it's probably Lysmata wurdemanni. Other shrimps that get imported as peppermint shrimps include Lysmata rathbunae, Lysmata boggessi, Lysmata vittata, Lysmata seticaudata, and many other Lysmata sp. The most common peppermint shrimp you find here is Lysmata boggessi. To the untrained eye, it's hard to differenciate it from L. wurdemanni but they work all the same. xjiahua
some updates to share. 1 out of 3 i bought didnt make it (probably the one that jumped out frm the net when the auntie was catching) a lil disappointed with it initially as i only witness it tackling the big aiptasia while not touching the smaller ones (which was stubborningly spreading like wildfire) until yesterday, there were none in sight. =D
