Rusty X Flame angelfish

Recommended Posts

I realise something interesting.

Rusty angel usually has a clear and translucent tail which can be slightly yellowish but usually transparent.

Flame angel on the other hand has an opaque yellow tail.

And their hybrids usually develop either a clear tail (more rusty blood) or a yellow tail (more flame blood).

As can be seen in lemon's rusty flame it has a yellow tail which means more flame blood, whereas my current rusty flame has a clear tail which means more rusty blood.

So the tail can also help to determine if the fish has more flame traits or rusty traits.

And the interesting thing is the true shepardi from Guam also have this difference.

Judging from the pics on the net and kioshi endoh's book, some true shepardi has yellow tail while some has transparent tail. So indeed shepardi may be a hybrid of rusty and flame and how the tail develop in a fish depends on which parent species blood it has more.

most importantly they are generally hardy

getting 1 is tough, getting the right 1(the coloration you like) is 10x tougher

Yeah, something new and not too ex.

Hope to see one soon!

(-_-) Happy will do ... (o_o)

Rusty flames are as different as fingerprints. Every fish has different colors and patterns.

Too bad my is way too aggressive to keep in a small tank. It has gone to a bigger and a better home.

Below is a rusty flame with v little black stripes.

video of my rusty flame

pretty aggressive, will chase my mystery & yellow wrasse

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v83oPjpj1hY

rusty flames are extremely extremely aggressive.

i went through hell and back trying to form my flame angel complex harem!

but after multiple failures and futile attempts, i managed.

i now have a pair of flame angels and a pair of rusty flames living harmoniously together.

it will be interesting to see all 4 of them inter-breeding as they are all closely related.

are spawning pair more aggressive?

must be real beautiful to see 2 pairs swimming around together

extremely aggressive.

my female flame angel almost tore my rusty flame to bits. but i managed to lesson the aggression by repeatedly catching all 4 of them out and reshuffle the re-introduction.

now both pairs are happy.

will take a video soon if i have the time.
