filter sock recommendation?

Hi bros, i have just upgraded my setup to a proper 4 ft with cabinet and sump. With space to properly do maintenance at last, I transferred sand and rock from 3 different tanks into the 4ft but of course ended up crating a huge cloud storm of dirt. I used filter wool with the sump but i realised that while it traps detritus very well, i have to take out the wool to rinse all the gunk out every 2 days and while doing that, i end up releasing some of the dirt back into the system that clouds up the water and it feels like i'm slapping myself. Hence I'm thinking of using a filter sock to make my life easier, but have no experience with them and am not sure what micron size is too big or too small. Any recommendation for a micron size that will effectively trap small detritus particles? Thanks for the help!

The more popular (or common) filter socks are the 300 micron felt type - a good balance between filtration effectiveness & convenience. However, they are quite troublesome to wash. 200 micron is also popular.

The alternative is 300 micron nylon types. Skimz has some nice good quality ones but they they to have smaller 'capacity' then the felt counterparts.

If your sump has space, one option is to get the 7" nylon types & place a layer of wool in there. Easy to remove/discard the wool but yet avoid the dirt storm you mentioned when the sock/wool is removed

Thanks for the advice bros. Actually, being a cheapskate and looking at what the socks look like... I was just thinking how it looks literally like a sock or stocking. Any bros here ever used a stocking as a filter sock instead? Lol
