  1. you worried the sand might be contaminated? Unlikely cos those parasites usually hide inside the rock. Nevertheless, it depends on you. If your tank is small and you are hardworking, then bring out and to rinse it. If there are live stocks, you might not consider a major wash as it will stress and sudden change in water parameter might kill them. Think there is always risk involved, the amount will depend on you, whether you willing to take the risk or be safe than sorry..... hope my advice will help but it might not be the correct way as i am learning and newbie 2. If you can wait, maybe wait for the senior reefers to provide advice. : )
  2. ya, also treat yr rocks before putting into your tank....if not...disaster will occur if it is housing many parasites.....if those so called cured, treated rocks may have unknown and illegal tenants.....best wishes for you
  3. Change the water. Take out the rock and remove the decay coral(brush or use water spray head) and soak in fresh water for few days(change water daily as the water is likely to stink). You may stop once the water is no longer giving off foul smell. It will kill off the "parasites". Want more effective elimination, please it under hot sun......hehe...but with all this method, ..yr live rock will become death rock....... If you still want the rock to be alive, shortenthe fresh water dip and put back in saltwater. Or you can use coral dip method, using freahwater, iodine and put it back in a separate saltwater to cleanse the rock. .... this will be what i will do... other senior reefers might have better method.....
  4. me no great....just trying to share what i have gone through.....though the info might be available in the forum but as a newbie, i think one needs to really speak to someone and gather fast facts. Go to the shop where u feel comfortable in and establish good rapport for future discount...hehehe...all the best and do keep us posted on your new purchase. Will stay in tune for your posting. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the sharing. Will keep the rocks...lol...
  6. 2 cents worth opinion, seems long but after achieving the temperature, how long does it take for the artica to kick in again? Mine is a 2ft cube with a sump tank and it takes around 15 minutes to cool my tank to 27.7(set around 28.3) and around 45 minutes to an hour for it to kick in again depending on the surrounding temperature. Me using 1/5 artica.
  7. Honestly, i face the same problem when i first started. That is why ultimately i bought entire setup from a senior reefer. If you want a simple nano tank setup, jireh, aquamarin, swift singapore pte ltd(pasir ris), etc do sell those setup. Think price is from 488 to 688 for a 1ft nano tank. You may go to OTF, think they are sell the tank itself at ard $200 for 1.5 ft? Then you need to get your coral, sand, rock, fishes, salt, etc and all these, you might be able to get cheap or free from the forum. Hope this help. : )
  8. haha...bro, will like to but working lar........somemore me talk public one....dont want to eat fried cuttle fish...if not...really become marine fish eating fried cuttle fish....lol...
  9. err.. wat is SH huh...lol.... Don't know much abt Jireh self cooling device but have you understand how the device work and it must convince you that it will work. Then use a search to see anyone tried using it? Self-cooling....no comment ....but so far....only seen ppl using chiller, fan or rotating spray on their sump to cool the tank... For the setup, i am not in a position to comment. However, i know few shops that sell those 1 ft nano tank setup, aqua marin also has it, think is also $588 but it should come with stand, everything except the chiller. Pasir Ris Farm got a shop selling $488 or $688(2 sizes), i cant remember. DIY might be cheaper and also getting second-hand product. Based on your requirement, fish only, chiller is not necessary but the temperature should not exceed 30 to 31.....for sea horse, i am not sure about the requirement but you need to make sure they eat....lol.....must have a bit of current, some structure for them to hook onto, etc. Maybe you can search thr the forum, peong is one seahorse lover...hehe. For hard core, hope you are not referring to sps, etc...lol..... if yes, then you must learn from the senior liao...me keeping LPS..... For me, i got a small quarantine tank, think is 1.5 ft by 1ft by 1ft and a prizm skimmer for $110. It comes with fan, light and a filter. So far, i only use the tank, light and skimmer. The rest, i never use but do water change on weekly basis. So far, so good and i got 2 maroon clown, 1 coral beauty, 2 damsels, 1 banded shrimp, 1 angel, 6 line wrasse and 2 gobies. Think over crowded but will be shifting my coral beauty and some other fishes to my main tank. Maybe can explore getting a cheap baoyu or jebo nano and add in the necessary. Search the selling sector, some selling tank for only $50 or less. Look through and see anything that catches your eyes. meet up the seller and learn from their setup. : )
  10. Yo yo Bro. Welcome back to this hobby. Think every shop has their own selling points and loyal customers. From my experience, friendly owners got a few and approachable one are ...Henry from ML, Iwarna, one of the worker at pet mart.....Think you must find a right time to go their shops because if they are business, they hardly have any time to chat with you. Hence, advice for setup and equipment, think it will be good to check with senior reefers here. Usually, they wont keep many equipment and they will order upon your confirmation. However, if you engage them to help you in the setup.....think many shops will be very friendly towards to visit....wahahaha Can provide more details what you have now? full dimension of your tank - 1.5ft by how many ft(width) and how many ft(height). The filter system - sump or canister or others, intented setup - fish or with coral, lighting, skimmer, chiller, deco, etc. Where do you stay, i wont mind tagging along as i usually go farm over the weekend. : )
  11. Looking for nice zoo frag. If you have, please pm me. Thanks.
  12. From the pic, the yellow tang seems comfortable in your tank. Can always add new fish mah unless you want to reduce bio-load. Agree...first started, wanted to budget but in the end...just let go....wahahaha....now....controlling....
  13. Oh, maybe you can try to buy from Henry. I did ask him before and he told me his mandarin will eat his henry goumet. When you choosing one, look for one that is fat and going round pecking ....at least you know this fish has been eating like pig before getting caught and likely cant stand of hunger and start eating after you bought it....also..fat one got more reserves....lol Maybe you can try other more hardy one but i think mandarin still the cutest. All the best. p/s : Me still trying. : )
  14. For me, made a bold step to adopt one. So far so good. Has been observing its stomach, seems full(hope not gastric problem of indigestion or bloated air...lol). You are right that they feed on pods and small small creatures. I always see the fish pecking on the rocks but dont know what it is eating...lol....for sure, they dont behave like other fishes - fighting for pellets, mysis, brine shrimp, etc. For me, i waited for my tank to be more "established", still trying hard, and introduced many shrimps...especially female one, lol....they will produce eggs ...so when baby shrimps appear, i think it is a food source of them also. Observed pods and small shrimp before i commit in buying the mandarin. A word of cautious, i understand some reefers have succeeded in keeping one mandarin and subsequently add another and in the end, both died. Maybe due to insufficient food. Anyway, they are cute and peaceful. Ignored other fishes and just go round the rocks to look for food. Good Luck for you. : )
  15. A neat setup. UFOs to the tank....lol....why give up the yellow tang....looks nice in the tank....: )
  16. Hi, me not expert in lighting. Think apart from the intensity(W), the wavelength of the light also plays a part in keeping your coral healthy and growing. Hope more experienced reefers can help in your queries. Maybe you can try asking the LFS owners. They should be helpful, especially when they know business is coming but then, check a few rather than just one shop....hehe. All the best.
  17. Hi, Support Bro Thexder's advice unless you very hardworking, keep changing water....hehe....look at the forum, think got ppl selling good skimmer at good price....maybe you can state your budget and the seller will support GSS to give you discount. Good day to you. : )
  18. Bro, maybe you can look thr pass posting from Chucky(or something similar). He has deltec APF600 which is in or outsump skimmer. However, not sure whether it can support 4 ft as i know 3 ft is okay for this skimmer. All the best. : )
  19. Thanks for the info. Ya, hopefully they have cos saw their latest shipment...like dont have yellow...maybe too earlier to say....will check out this saturday. Hopefully got 2.5 inche one...hehehe Goby.....many leh...hehe.....u looking for those sand bed type....hovering type....or swimming ard one....lol if your tank is all peacefully fish, i will suggest you keep neon yellow and blue goby....very cute....hehe....for those sand bed type.....many type......for hovering one...hector type.....or fire goby lor.....purple queen is more shy(i find it).....or you try the Helfrichi(think spelling error) goby which cost more than 2 blue notes...hehehe.......
  20. Pardon my ignorance. I think i read somewhere that it will be good to keep the water for a day before using. Nevertheless, from the forum, think lots of ppl are using it immediately and saw some shops also did the same..........
  21. thousand apologies again. $132.
