  1. ya man.. dont get the tom yam flavoured ones!!!
  2. didnt 'train' them leh.. they like seaweed naturally.. only thing was they had to get used to the orange clip. took them a couple of days to trust that the orange clip wont bite. the big black tang, archilles tang and chevron tang were reefer's fishes. apart from the chevron tang, the other 2 were raised in Iwarna which i had the honour of buying over.. they were already trained on pellets, mysis, seaweed and what-nots. and they have all previously overcome ich and survived... there's a myth saying that once the fish survive ich, it develops a natural immunity that gives it an edge when there is an ich breakout. although reefers fishes are more expensive than fish shipment, i think it makes a more worthy investment overall. i had 2 archilles and 2 black tangs from new shipment died on me before i had the opportunity to take over these fishes. The amount of money spent on those were much more than what i paid for these seasoned fishes. the overall health condition of these fishes is obvious right from the moment i put them in the tank. while other new fishes would hide and refuse to feed for the first couple of days, these seasoned tangs began feeding barely 15mins in their new environment.
  3. tangs are commonly known as ich magnets.. everything seems to trigger an ich outbreak with tangs.. expect the ich to spread to the rest of the community before it peak out and subside.. so dont add anymore fishes and do more frequent water change in the meantime. but as long as they are eating and active, high chance they will survive. this is a good read: http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/ichthyophthirius nothing much we can do if in main tank already rite.. not ignored lah, just monitor and cross finger. i drop salinity a little (from 1.025 to 1.021 thereabouts) and some may not agree.. but it works for me and sps survived. and no new fishes till ich disappears.
  4. Thank you for the kind complements!! There already a big hole in pocket. So decided to rock scape than buy fishes. Save money.
  5. wow.. thanks bro.. your compliments are very humbling. the pleasure is all mine to have you over. i have much to learn from senior reefers like yourself.
  6. thanks.. can have more space for corals and sps.
  7. saturday also spent the night fragging and arranging the rest of the corals till late.. some random videos.. can see all the tangs in this video.. hand fed achilles.
  8. how do you spend your weekend evenings? i spent my friday night rescaping my rocks and corals till 2am... added some rocks to create more space for sps.. concentrated only on the left side of the tank. FTS Previously now Side previously Now left side up close comparison.. spot the difference? previously now
  9. hmm... will be in the main tank of cos.. just giving them a couple of months to get used to anemone. then up to them to find their anemone in the main tank.
  10. ditto that.. its an heart breaking and back wrenching lesson..... or issit heart wrenching and back breaking lesson... thanks for sharing.
  11. As long as they keep eating, there is hope. Once they stop eating and start hiding.. Chances are slim. Forgot to add that I also add garlic extract to their pellets and mysis to boost their immunity when my tangs having ich breakout. U can get from Henry at marine life.
  12. a doc wrasse is also good. you can literally see the doctor fish picking the white spot off the body of the fish.. that is if your fish allows doctor to inspect. i also do more frequent water change. i noticed that using salt mix reduces the white spot for a couple of days before it comes back.. maybe its just me. if you dont have sps, try lowering the salinity of the water SLOWLY.. 1.20 to 1.21.
  13. the clown saga continues.... ever since the snowflake and black ice chased the picasso out of the anemone and kept attacking the poor picasso, i removed the picasso to another betta and contemplated on what to do next. finally decided to purchase another ultra grade picasso from joe to accompany the poor guy. i collected picasso #2 today and was worried that, being tank bred, it wouldnt be anemone frenly. bought a smaller pc of anemone and switched with the bigger anemone with snowflake and black ice. i think since these 2 are already hosting on anemone, should be no problem. i needed the bigger pc anemone to fill up the betta box for the picassos. snowflake and black ice hosted the new anemone in no time. once an anemone lover, always one! i placed the bigger anemone in with picasso #1 and #2. picasso #1 seem to remember the anemone and hosted in 15 mins.. while picasso #2 was trying to avoid it at all costs.. haha. picasso #1 seem to be teaching picasso #2 the ways of an anemone. as the anemone expanded, both were hosting in it 3 hours later. yippee!!! here is my picasso pair having fun in the anemone. and in the other betta, the snowflake and black ice.
  14. it is a worm! thank you for this enlightening thread. for a couple of weeks now, i always see a silver string at the back of the candy cane coral towards the back of the tank. i thought it was a stressed coral giving out slime. after reading your thread, i turned the coral the other way so that i could see the back side of the coral so that it is facing me in front. true enough, a 'cobweb' of strings formed within half an hour. these were probably formed at the back where i couldnt see in its original position. the source seem to come out of a single stalk that seem to be a dead head.upon closer look, its not a dead head but a hard tunnel like the one you described. i took the candy cane out of the water and started chopping the hard tunnel till i reached the end of the stalk. then with a pincer, i pulled out this........ the worm is smaller than a fingernail and i worry that the worm might have broken in half, so i gave the stalk of the candy cane a FW dip just to make sure.
  15. this is interesting... i always see a silver string in the right side of the tank. i thought it was one of the coral stress will go away. its been a couple of weeks. i'll try looking for that worm. did you perform the search and destroy worm operation in water or out of water?
  16. dont give them such big space to move around, i give them only half the betta box to reduce the space they can avoid the anemone. i control by the water level in the betta box. this way you can maximise your chances of them hosting. once they host, you can give all the space they want to make their stay comfy.
  17. u have 2 picasso and 2 black ice right? they host in the same anemone is good liao. my black ice and snowflake chase the picasso out of the anemone, they not willing to share,
  18. i ordered from this store.. http://socaltropicalfishoutlet.com/catalog/ the person i corresponded with is Tom Tran email address socaltropicalfishoutlet@yahoo.com if you are interested, maybe can consolidate orders to share shipping costs.
  19. the clown saga took a twist this afternoon when i saw the picasso kena outcast and chased out of the anemone. even though the snowflake and picasso had been living together for almost 5 months, black ice managed to steal snowflake heart within a night. i had to intervene immediately and remove picasso from betta box. now he is alone in the main tank betta area. with no anemone to accompany him, he is back to bobbing on the water surface. could it be that the snowflake and black ice, both being oscelleries clown, still prefer their own kind? compared to a picasso which is a perc? should i get another picasso or platinum then? any ideas?
  20. congrats! so now all 4 clowns host in the same anemone? this is 'monkey see monkey do' .. in this case 'fish see fish do'.
