hi, I share exactly the same experience with Spade ...Sam actually suggested the same thing UGF, LR but not damsel(he suggested clown) etc...spend alot of $ for the initial setup and buying their products but find them not suitable after all no need change water for one year and all those crap of toping freshwater etc i confronted him y in the 1st place he tell me no need change water for 1yr then now tell me need to change every week he jus give me a lousy excuse like if I use a eheim canister filter...then i can afford to change water once every year at tis pt of time...my trust in him already flush down the sewage.... as for casualties wise...i am very lucky to say tat my fishes have been faithfully following me ever since i started my tank (very fortunate even i change my tank from a 4footer to a 3footer)...only one clown fish comitted suicide by jumping out from my tank and the other one get suck in by my powerhead...the rest of the fishes have been with me throughout the entire 2years as for corals wise i need periodical purchasing and topping up becos my corals will wither off and die in approx 2-3mths wat i can gather the information is that some corals are impossible to keep, e.g cauliflower. Hence will never buy those delicate corals from now on and keep only some hardy ones like mushrooms etc....till i improve my tank with chiller and MH...i will lay my hands off those delicate corals and only one coral have been following me throughout the 2yrs of my hobby...tat's my good old bubble corals until I was introduced to tis website, my knowledge is purely based on books purchase locally and sometimes internet thank goodness with tis site...i am learning quite a bit of things, especially lite, plankton cultivation and skimmer. no doubt i have a fairly established tank...learning of new and correct ways of maintaining a reef tank is still the my top most piority hopefully tis website will spread this wonderful experience of owning and maintaining a successful marine tank around...be it a reef tank or FOWLR

is tis generally the case any other fish tat are sceptical to low water quality?

hmmm ...a point worth taking note so given a choice....would u still go back to FL/PL or stick with MH(becos i might change to MH in the near future...jus wanna seek your opinion)

Hi onghm, been using those stuff too...tat's the best beside live plankton...perhaps u need coral accel too...and maybe marine deluxe...bot most of my coral food fr Sealife can't wait for the thread on cultivating live plankton to start then maybe will access any diff between live plankton and those commercially cultivated plankton. I thk it's a gd idea to buy live plankton fr those who are cultivating becos not many of us have the space to set up a plankton factory but i dunno whether live plankton can withstand how long without blowing bubbles into those bottles...guess have to wait for the thread to start...then we have a clearer picture

roger liao so your MH actually consist violet/actinic lite we users of FL/PL lite actually need to combine our 10,000K with actinic lite becos 10,000K lite lacks the actinic supplement sometimes, you must understand, not everyone of us can afford to own a MH lite. Firstly becos of the heat MH generate will need to incorporate the use of a chiller. Secondly the cost factor also need to be taken into consideration(at least $2K for MH and a chiller) Lastly, the house constraint. Be it lacks of space or sometimes our spouse odjection. Sometimes, due to any of the reasons or a combination of the above, we can only utilised FL/PL lite. <_< Anyway, I think we know exactly wat u mean already. Thks

tat's wat i am trying to imply...LFS always give the wrong and inaccurate info sometimes making us like a fool listening to them but b4 these site was launched...we have no one to refer to for advises or to verify certain things those LFS owners had told us

i dunno how slim is the design of TheBen...but i thk the brand 'diehl' is quite a good and reliable one...

any hardware shop will sell i am talking abt those hardware stores in shoping centre(handyfix etc)...not our neighbourhood 'gou-kim-tiam' ntuc sell too...these shops are reliable if you wanna 'safety' ones

bro...i got wat u mean but i still dun see the implication of night...dawn...noon...duck...night again once we switch off the lite after 3hrs in the morning...there is total darkness then we turn on the lite again...until evening when we on it for another 7hrs maybe...could you kindly pm me and explain to me more in details thks

since we are in tis topic on lites i was actually advise by one of the LFS to turn on the Actinic lite 1st for at least 30min...then we start turning on those white lite reasons being to prevent corals having "sudden lite shock"... how true iccit? and how many of us as marine aquarist actually practice that also advised to put actinic lite towards the front of the tank but no reason given y must put actinic lite towards the front

usually...i dun do such thing it will only disorientate your corals can u imagine sleeping halfway...then waken up by some unkown reason...then try to get back to sleep...it spoils your rest rite? personally i dun do tat

fr wat i know...LR kept in styrofoam box will die some day i remember once i bot 30kgs of LR...put in a large container of SW...with 2 powerheads running in the container...i jus left it there overnite...next morning, the LR nearly turn bad...worms(i dunno wat worms) start crawling out but lucky next day I am ready to put my LR into my tank...so nothing major happen i suggest you better get a tank fast and put your LR into your tank ASAP.

precisely....stock up till wife at home makes noise btw...Lor Halus...issit a gd place for marine...been there a couple of times...but not really impress with their livestocks leh though their other stuffs maybebe cheaper(carbon etc)

err...does PVC really accumlates rubbish inside? i didn't notice it leh...if so...siao liao lah...i use so many PVC pipe connecting to my sump tank and connecting to my main tank but IMO, ithk those rubber hose should be safe

i thk they are the same thing they come ontop of LR till tis point...jus wanted to share with you guys...one LFS actually suggested that if we wan LR, we can get all those corals and remove them leaving the LR alone...throwing away the corals such a stoopid suggestion and irresponsible suggestion (dun wanna to mention the name of the LFS, jus in case thet sue me )

maybe u r rite in certain ways wat i am hoping is more marine LFS to choose from...not converting all LH LFS to marine LFS....maybe correction to my previous postings...sometimes wanna get some stuff also have to go a long way from my house
