  2. can't go into the website...
  3. use nitrate sponge/eliminator...kekeke....tat's always my advice for high nitrate...hehehe becos i dunno any other ways to eliminate nitrate well at least my nitrate level are within acceptable range IMO...use Sera test kits previously...dun really trust them i thk Sera have to do more R&D on marine test kits...results not so accurate

good if they went out of biz ...hopefully someone will start marine LFS instead of those ugly LH LFS...every where can see LH LFS an eyesore in fact feel that marine LFS are difficult to find and difficult to find a trustworthy one too always suggesting buy tis...buy tat...but in the end...find all those stuff useless...worst...can't even give us correct information on the fishes they sell <_<
  5. ooohhh...btw...how long can LR tahan without water i am thinking giving some LR to my fren...he is abt to start his marine tank....but bad timing no supply of LR at the moment(and he makes so much noise)....so i tot of giving him a few pcs of my excess LR
  6. so it actually can be done...but it is a pretty long process if i am not wrong...to seed LR...water quality need to be maintain at a very high level...plus lots of water current Tanzy, does your 4footer have high water current when u throw in your dead rocks?
  7. me too my sailfin tang so poor thing...it's fin was bitten...now recovering same problem with my majestic too...kena bitten
  8. since some of us are facing with problems of getting LR nowadys, can we cultivate LR ourselves from wat i had heard from Sealife...tat fella told me seeding can be done...but not recommended....because the sucess rate is too low...anyone had tried that b4?successful?
  9. no not only damsel... i hate my damsel...keep chasing my Sailfin tang i have mixture of angels, tangs & damsel ...now i am afraid to add in anymore livestocks....becos my stoopid damsel will chase them around the tank probably trying to make the new fish get used to the tank environment...hehehe
  10. all corals need minerals, food etc but according to AT...live plankton are the best....still waiting for his thread on 'How to cultivate live plankton' corals need water current too...some need strong current...some need little current...ask LFS...they should give u a guide as to which corals need strong current/low current btw...though mushroom and buttons need only low light....but it is still the best to give them strong light...IMO
  11. OIC....will go home and check it out...thks alot
  12. thks Tanzy...could there be a situation whereby there isn't much stuff to skim? wat i am afraid is there is tonnes of stuff to skim but my skimmer is malfunctioning and u mentioned venturi valve....are u referring to the valve tat water is flowing out from the skimmer
  13. thks Chris but i am actually looking for those traditional cylindrical looking skimmer...so that i can put in the sump....can the prizm place in the sump? $220 is quite on the low side....as compared to some skimmer i saw...$500-$600 wonder wat they skim...so ex have any skimmer tat is lower than $220?
  14. Tanzy, recently i noticed my skimmer(dunno wat brand but some kind of venturi skimmer) not skimming up to my expectation. It could be the powerhead that is attached to the skimmer that is faulty or it could be the skimmer is plain lousy. I tot of upgrading the skimmer if there isn't much improvement after I changed the powerhead. Used to skimmed lots of yellowish subtance but nowadays, it seems like it skims mostly WATER. May you recommend any skimmer suitable for a 70gallon tank? Hopefully it is economical and not too big for my sump...ooohh yes pls let me know where can i buy it...be it locally or overseas...thks
  15. jus tested 2 days ago, it is less than 10___i thk is 10meg or something like that...almost zero the safe level is actually less than 40 but some books suggested it is best to keep nitrate below 20 i also read from the book...in some tanks it is impossible to keep nitrate at a low level...i dunno how true is tis...maybe they are referring to those with canister filter
  16. play safe is the word...bro no point harming all the beautiful marine fishes if your water quality is not suitable as for my case, i guess i am jus plain lucky that my fishes survive under atrocious water condition
  17. it's a surprise that pple actually suggest not to introduce any bottle bacteria to cycle tank when i started my tank abt 2yrs ago...i practically started putting in livestocks in a week or two(with bottle bacteria, of course) without testing for ammonia, NO2 or NO3...later than i realised tat i must do all these tests further more change tank earlier tis year...(touch wood)lucky all my fishes seems ok...infact all my 1st batch of fishes are still in my tank must really take note of all these when changing tank in the future
  18. Hi Tango, I thk my LRs are placed the same way you placed b4 you redo your tank however my nitrate level is less than 10. Do you really thk that stagnent areas, placement of LR onto the sand bed etc really contribute to nitrate problem? If so, I thk I really have to redo my tank liao
  19. to those with high NO3...y don't you try any brand of nitrate sponge it's a kind of resin that absorbs all NO3 mine have been pretty low after using tat
  20. one problem lead to another...fish shit>snail shit>? use a sand cleaner lor i suggest...i got only one snail...maybe i can't notice too much shit alternatively, disturb your sand bed and let the filter do their job...be it a overflow filter or canister filter...
  21. it's possible to DIY a overflow without drilling hole...but like wat chanbi suggested....wat if PUB decides to shut down the electricity supply for maintenance? or do wat ian did in this thread http://www.sgreefclub.com/forums/index.php...88c7442846ff6dd i dunno exactly how it works...the details i mean...but according to him...it will work alternatively, i am trying to get some pics on my own tank...also DIY overflow...(oooi, rumour...when you coming to take pics) one thing no good abt my overflow is that it will stop working if electricity stops for more than 10sec. when electricity resume...my pump sure spoilt becos no water in my sump from the main tank unless i invest in a UPS...but if i buy a UPS...i must as well buy a new tank with the proper overflow system (anybody can give me a 4D number that will sure strike this Wed? )
  22. one more question...do you have to restart your siphoning every time you change water...or do you have a valve to control the siphoning?
  23. fantastics is only a mild word to describe your innovation really how does it works? if i am not wrong, Ian, i thk there is a similar thread to this does it works the same way?siphoning method...does it work something like this Ian? http://www.sgreefclub.com/forums/index.php...696ace4f75cbf3e
  24. maybe onghm is rite and i think chiller gives off alot of heat & consumes lots of electricity(maybe someone using chiller can comment on this)... i dunno becos i never own a chiller b4 however, my ultimate aim is still to own a chiller one day maybe the day when i strike 4D anybody out there can give me a 'kang tao di'
  25. so sorie to hear that such a sad experience happen to you i am not too sure if this work nothing happen to my tank like wat happened to yours. if yours is a new tank...i thk there isn't a neccessity to quarantine your first batch of fishes(i assume all fishes are introduce into your tank at almost the same time). i would suggest change 50% of your water and add in Seachem Stress Guard. Check water...i thk the water should be fine since you mentioned that everything is stable. Thereafter, start introducing fishes at the rate of 1fish per 4-5days...starting from the cheapest(ie clown)...monitor the health of fishes before buying further...and always practice looking for a healthy fish...i mean some people jus buy wat LFS can offer without looking at the health of the fish...buy on impluse...try not to do that i know it's difficult becos sometimes i cannot tahan also well maybe some other people can offer a better advise
