  1. Usually this type of "oni-giri" rice ball sushi is indeed flavored. Usually if it is for sushi it is not seasoned, so try to buy sushi seaweed (eg, nori) Last resort: taste! My wife buys it for me at Cold Storage here, and she is from Japan.
  2. Thanks, Admiraltian and all. Read a bit about it online and basically seems like a safe, non-sexual macro-algae. Should be good for the tank, and I may just let it go into the others as well. Xiggie, sure if you're around Holland V, just let me know and we can scrape some into a baggie. basically, it's soft and in bunches, so tough to break off any piece to be honest.
  3. Thanks. Snoop. Yeah, it looks nice under the LED, but really makes me wonder. I'm mostly concerned to use the same cleaning tools and "pass" it into one of my other tanks.
  4. Hi. I have had this fungus type growth on my live rocks for about 6 months. It grows quite strongly, and is bright red. When you grab it, it pops so tough to pull off. It doesn't seem to be a problem, but I'm very curious what it is. In this 30cm by 30cm tank I have only sexy shrimp, some mushrooms, 1 x flaming prawn goby, and a lot of atipasia... Please let me know your ID. Thanks! JW
  5. Interested where is open today. Confirmed MarineLife closed today.
  6. I use an eheim 1000 for mixing, so it looks great after 15 minutes, but then at some point after that there is fall-out. I'll have to re-read the instructions and see if it happens again. Thanks, guys.
  7. Guys , I also use rscps, and i am finding that if i let sit for more than 4 hours i get a fallout and very chalky water. ive been using it anyways, but im not satisfied. i end up flushing the left over residue, which must be all the good stuff from the water..... Not sure why it would be best usedd within 4hrs of mixing, but now i will go back to that method. Jw
  8. Hi all, My Exocotic stunner strip has been in my RSM130D for the past year. I noticed the strip failing the other day and when I checked, the inside connector piecing together the strip and the power pack was fully covered in blue powder. I had the male and female connectors wrapped in electrical tape, but from time to time it would get wet from the back sump. When I unwrapped it tonight I noticed the blue/white build up. Anyone have any idea how to remove so I can rekindle my light? Appreciate the advice. Thanks. Jarrod
  9. Beautiful stuff guys. Let me ask a simple question. As I eventually need to return to the US where power is 120 60hz, are the high-end LED lights that you are buying dual voltage (eg, usable here and in the US)? Really want to avoid paying out now and then having to sell in Pasar Salam... haha.... Thanks.
  10. Hi guys, looking for advice here... My chiller temperature gauge died sometime in the past 48 hours. I was away for work, and came back to 3 out of 5 fish dead... water around 32 degrees. Lost: 2 x lyretail anthias (M/F) 1 x whipfin fairy wrasse Surviving: 1 x bicolor blenny 1 x coral beauty I was able to get the chiller serviced today, but the temp was set too low and by the time I came home from work, it read 24 degrees and my thermometer read 22 degrees. Too cold! My cleaner shrimp is moving slooooooowly and my banded shrimp is moving but also slowly. Could be from the cold or the giant meal they just made of my poor fish. I could not get to the dead fish as they were jammed in crevices or MIA. My blenny and beauty look fine (and dare I say happier???). I did a 5 gallon water change this morning (before chiller was serviced), and I plan to do again tomorrow morning. I turned the chiller setting up to 27 degrees so that it warms up slowly overnight. None of my soft corals are opening, my hammer coral is closed tight, etc. Any advice? What to do??? Thanks guys. JW
  11. Interested in the comment on washing the frozen food. How do you do this? I feed a frozen mixed food from lfs, and when i break up under water i see a lot of film and tiny particles. Appreciate any advice from Blusafe or other reefers. Thanks!
  12. Ive been thinking of using lego to make a media rack for my red sea max tank... you guys ever combine your hobbies???
  13. Actually i was wondering the result of the use as well. Was checking it out at qian hu today and if the marketing is to be believed.... we no longer need a protein skimmer if you run the hydrastream technology. Can it be so??? It also is attractive because it, and a dry pump can be run outside the water, keeping things cool. I can not find anything on the web except a 'practical fishkeeping' review from 2012, except the author just says that he's skeptical.... kind of a waste review actually. Does anyone have any water parameter or coral growth experience to share? Thanks!
  14. Hi dn. I also have a rsm 130d. I`ve only ever found lights at qian hu. Like you i have thought about converting to leds, but wattage issues between here and USA have kept me from moving ahead with it till i return. I have read on various sites|forums that other lights are possible using the stock rsm ballast. Below was used by famous forum writer and blogger on his rsm. Quian hu is closed for cny, but you could try one of the light shops in Balestier?
