  1. Added a purple tang last month. Had ich for about a week+ which went away. I followed one of Xiggie's post from a long time back about using crushed garlic + mysis shrimp (Thanks) I also reduced salinity to 1.024 (suggestion from Steven - Aquarist Chamber) And added a UV filter. Found it that it loves Ocean Nutrition Formula 1 & Julian Sprung Sea Veggies (Green). But refuses to touch New Life Spectrum Thera A or Julian Sprung Sea Veggies (Red) Golden Cloves. 2 polyps FOC from a fellow reefer in late Jan. Quite a few new ones have popped out. Close up of 'clean' sand from a sea cucumber Brown algae has been accumulating on the sea cucumber the past month. I gave it a light scrub-down with a toothbrush. Its so clean now. Sea Cucumbers are known to harden/stiffen when threatened - some form of defense mechanism. However, it became extremely flaccid when running the toothbrush over it. Is this a sign that it 'enjoys' a scrub down? The flame angel eats but not much. It picks up small left over pellets from the sand bed. Getting worried. Any suggestions on what they like to eat?
  2. So far water parameters are still manageable. I do measure my nitrate levels 2x a week. So far it maintains around 5ppm. I also do have an 11W UV sterilizer running 6pm to 7am to help keep the water 'cleaner'. Corals & fishes doing OK.
  3. Agree with the mwtan79 comments 100%. Bio pellets do not need to be changed. They will just reduce in volume over time & just need to be topped up. It'll be a waste to change them as the surface would be full of beneficial bacteria. Rowaphos will be depleted after a while & need to be changed out. On a separate note, some media should not be put together - especially those that are hard (bio pellets) vs soft (carbon). The hard media will grind down the softer ones. You will just end up with loads of the softer bits in your display tank.
  4. That's exactly the reason. Change the plug or find a proper adapter that contacts the ground pin Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. What kind if plug are you using? Is the chiller grounded?
  6. C328 (Clementi florist and aquarium). The super cramp shop. They have the sander air stone. i bought one some months back. And i saw it there this week.
  7. A pump which has a box specification of 2400L/hr => 0 head loss (i.e. reduced flow due to pipes, gadgets, height difference of tank & pump). After factoring in the system setup, it may drop to a much lower number. You'll need to factor in some of these losses. The major slow down are 90deg bends in pipes, flowing through chiller & head height (height in which the pump needs to push the water upwards). The final turnover rate should be 5x-10x.
  8. Thanks. I'll update here if I get new information from them.
  9. Nice & neat DIY. You can get heat shrink tubes from Sim Lim in case you want to change out the sticky electrical tape. Just to check.... both T5 tubes are Coral Plus?
  10. I've had it since 10th Jan 2015. I do squirt about 1/2 teaspoon of phytoplankton in the general tank area (not target feed) about 2-3x a week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Instructions say 1kg to 1.7L of water. I mixed it in that proportion. Also the reaction generates heat, so the water is pretty hot already. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. I got them from Coral Farm. They have nice small ones (~1.5" sized) recently.
  13. Seeking help on how to properly mix Red Sea Foundation C (magnesium) powder to make stock solution. 2nd attempt & can't get it right. Instructions say to mix 1kg of Red Sea Foundation powder to 1.7L of RO/DI water. However, i find that its impossible to get the powder to dissolve. In fact, there is a lot of residue left which settles down in the container - something that is undesirable when using a dosing pump. I read that some folks filter it through a coffee filter. I did just that & went further to test the stock solution (mix 10ml of stock solution to 990ml of RO/DI water). It yielded about 360ppm. This is so far off from the supposedly 1000ppm i'm supposed to get How to you guys resolve this? What are you getting?
  14. Is your anemone in contact with the Zoa? If so, provide some space so they don't touch. I had a similar experience where the anemone's foot grabbed onto some zoa and started to look thin/frail after a few days. I suspect it could be affected by the Zoa's toxins.
  15. For general cleaning, i just use vinegar for a soak. Then light scrub with a brush & rinse off. I use bleach if things have a lot of stubborn algae that won't go away. Eg glass lily pipes in freshwater planted tank, rocks. Or when attempting to disinfect things (tank, pump/hang on filter, tubes) for a hospital tank. Use vinegar & bleach separately. Quick rinse in between. And if you use bleach, do remember to use anti-chlorine during the rinse. Vaseline = petroleum jelly. Commonly used for for softening silicon in aquarium use. Some folks use petroleum jelly (on spindle tips of the impeller). No issues.
  16. Bleach is alkaline & a disinfectant. Great for removing algae. I normally use 20-50% concentration just to save on bleach. Vinegar is acidic - great for removing calcium like buildup. I normally just use it "concentrated". For example, the artificial vinegar from most local supermarkets, the vinegar is actually diluted 3.5% acetic acid. Both of the above will make things very clean, including ridding lubricants. For areas/seals that needs to be lubricated, i normally dab a bit of Vaseline (petroleum jelly).
  17. Yes its possible. Can set to location weather. Can also set it to "Location Timers" - i.e. sunrise/sunset follows the location.
  18. Basically : - Blue light switch on around 6am (able to view tank before heading to office). - Around 12hrs of the other spectrum of light light. Peaking around 2pm. Played around with settings quite bit & not removed some of the points. It could have been a lot more straight forward though. Generally good growth for most LPS & SPS. The only LPS that shows issue is the open brain. I'll need to move it to the shade.
  19. My Hydra settings. Peak values are roughly shown on the left side in the 'manual mode' chart. Open to feedback.
  20. For smaller chunks of dead/dry rocks (about fist size), Pacific Reef (Pasir Ris) sells them in a bag. For larger dead/dry rocks, they are hard to find in LFS. You probably have more luck getting them from fellow reefers in this forum. Else just buy live rocks from LFS & go through the process to clean them up thoroughly (bleach/vinegar/dry)
  21. You can just take a chisel or flat tip screw driver to break off the rock outside the tank. Its not all that bad lah. Just some irritation if salt water + Zoa 'fluids' are exposed to open wound, lips or eyes.
  22. How's the pink anemone doing? Does it move around a lot?
  23. Its spiral & whitish? Google "spirorbid worms". I read its a filter feeder & harmless. BTW, i think you meant sump, not slump.
