  1. Hi.. Jus wanna to say thanks to all who was there. ...um esp, Simon for your hospitality in hosting this... apologies to the guys for turning up late and going off early too. My system is still not up, no DI resin. For those who have asked about the RO thinggy and why the 1 micron, there's this link here that quite informative RO/DI FAQ and Randy's article : RO/DI Also, I'm jus wondering if anyone else want to share a bulk order on DI mixed-bed Resin. I'm intending to order 25 liters. I think I can take 5 liters for myself. Thnx all.
  2. you gotta check out this link : Starboard Reef, look at hdtvguy's post, 1 year and going strong...
  3. Oh.. well yes, theres always what to do with the 'waste' water in RO... as oppose to having to change out the DI resin sooner... jus imagine, if can pipe it to the WC tank or something. Anyway, better one thing at a time first.
  4. Simon, i'm already in for the 1 u... right? BTW, anyone looking to add a RO stage after this whole DIY is over?
  5. This months reefkeeping's covered it : An Improved DIY 2 part Ca + Alk. Side effects... would require testing, apart from overdosing Mg, and depending on what you use. if its MgSO4, test for sulphates..., and MgCl then test Chlorides I think the article mentions not to go over 200 ppm of Mg / day. Pls read for yourself though. Use the reef chemistry calculator. It will tell you how much to dose... depends on your system volume of course. Reef Chemistry Calculator I think the difference is in the purity of the content. Seachem's Mg comprises of MgSO4 and NaCl
  6. Sorry to join so late, and thnx guys! esp M&B for the initiation and Simon for kick starting this. be seeing some of you soon...
  7. Hi, would luv to be the 8th person in the queue for the DIY. Pls let me know, if anything else is required. Thnx

  9. None other than Eric Bourneman. He took part in a thread, "BB crash stories" and when put in a spot, turned around and started deleting the pictures posted by Bomber, accusing him of infringing some law by keeping Caribbean corals. He then asked Bomber to produce prove that he was from NOAA and had the proper papers to keep these corals or he (bourneman) would report him to the authorities. Shortly after that he deleted the entire BB crash stories thread, I think there were about 6 or 7 splits of 40 pages each there, a tremendous resource even by itself. This led to a high level meeting as he flouted rules, rules that he was suppose to have kept and protected, ironically -- accusing others what he himself had done. Sides were formed and I think, E. Brouneman roped in R. Shimek and A. Calfo, specialist in their own sub-forums, to lend weight to his actions, GregT defended Bomber, who I still think didn't do any wrong whatsoever. GregT resigned on his own after what he considered as unethically done towards his friend, RC's investigation into personal life of Bomber. The rest had their privileges revoked as their action/s amounted to something, like a threat towards RC, like a black-mail or dock-workers strike protest against the employer. Read GregT's portion here : http://www.saltyzoo.com/blog/
  10. Interesting! That looks like a piece I had some time ago... Yours looks a lot nicer!
  11. . wow. nice.! what is it? looks like this piece : http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/...%20pages/16.htm : A. cerealis
  12. What I got thru' SMS : Jus for laughs. Blessing for 2006: May a 1000 dog fleas invade the ###### of the ones who fuc* up your year and bless them with arms too short to reach and scratch 'em away. Have a great doggie year! Happy New Year!
  13. C'mon, what are you saying? ... "everytime i move the skimmer a bit or something, water just stops going into the skimmer.... the pump jus loses power"... then .... "it can't generate enough flow" You're funny....... but there's no electricity right... no power? so its has no power but you still dismantle the pump? ... ... btw sorry if i interpreted it wrongly?
  14. sorry... But I'll keep an eye and a ear out for you. macs are insanely great machines.
  15. MC, Take no risk when it comes to heavy rocks toppling/falling...pad your tank floor. Is it BB or sand.? Also, since you're re-scaping can you run your tank dry, its alot easier to work with it dry. You could use some malleable steel wires to wrap around them until the cement/epoxy has hardened, then have them cut out, and removed from within the dry tank. jus some ideas. HTH
  16. The same *and less* can be said for salt mixes. Basically, most kits can give you a reading and most times saltmixes come out lesser. Filtration is an issue, but no longer if the NSW obtain is clear. I'm not ssure for others, but I can tell if the water is yellowish. And oil is a non issue as the two dont' mix. Whats keeping me still to NSW is the life that it comes with, I dont' think anything thats added is bad or won't be consumed/absorbed for the benefit of whats in the tank.
  17. wow... *jaw drops to the floor* Sun kisses man. Must display all here again for a better view. What about the yellow piece shown partially in the first pic?
  18. Wow.! That one is stunning. Are there others... show, show leh.. We have the zoos kings, its time to dubbed you, suns king .

    Dendros

They are greedy fellas, they take-in anything that falls within the reach of their 'tentacles'. Its quite easy to feed them, because of their large polyps. I don't know whats really good for them, except to say that if they odn't like it, they spit it out later.
  20. http://www.saltyzoo.com/blog/ How about the other side of story. A much more believable view... IMO... without all the incredulous rubbish and accusations from the sandman.
  21. Have you gone to the next split.? Try it.
  22. Gosh, whats' on your mind?! What will it spark off? I think you're very imaginative. : ) Eric B. deleted a thread started by Galleon, "whos BB tank crashed"... A truly noteworthy thread in terms of info, BTW. It wasn't the protocol and so on..... I doon't think anything like that happened here...
  23. BH, this was started in the kopi tiam section... oooohhhh never-mind.
  24. Just very curious, has anyone been following what happened in RC recently. A couple of hobby experts and mods have left (not sure if its permanent), due to a virtual brawl there? I kinda missed Bomber's participation there...
  25. Its nice... now if you can jus wait for a year or two more, it'll look a great deal more nicer. The mini colonies look very healthy, and the close ups are beautiful. As for the overall tank shot, some colours don't standout as much, I think thats because the corals are still small. The LPS can do with more strategic placement so they'll catch the eye at first entry. Some portions are too cramp for my liking, ( thats jus me as I like s p a c e ). Just a thought, but before long you'll be breaking them again...and I hope you'll won't have to start again growing them from mini-colonies. The strange thing is, I like to see Acros encrusting on the rocks they are attached to... it is like theres something done nicely... like a little bonsai growing and establishing boundaries before they grow even bigger. Patience, grasshopper. you're doing well.
