  1. I would suspect an indication error. If the PH is actually at 7.7-7.8, LS have to show signs of stress. Try cleaning the probe.
  2. I also recommend the Eheim 1260. Bulletproof and resonably price.
  3. Henry, Lost you somewhere, how did you know it was spoilt? Are you saying that the skimmate becoming stinker because the enaly was not working. Tony
  4. Good idea. Hope you will not be offended, but let me add my two cents 1. Over time, I think the control valve will become clogged. I guess if you want to use this, periodic maintenance is a must. 2. You will need to match the drip rate with your evaporation rate. Not that easy as the evaporation rate is not a constant. 3. The dripper/doser chamber is pressurised because the top-up reservoir is placed on top of it. This will create an addition dimension to your DIY. Extra care will be needed on the joints. Good luck with this. Keep us update on your progress
  5. Confirm Aquaz or Aqualight? I went to one LFS to get a coulpe of Aquaz tubes. The chap came out with the tubes and told me it was $20++ per tube. I said the Aquaz tubes should be on offer, but the sticker price on the tubes stated it was $20++. Upon looking closer, we noticed it was Aqualight tubes! That's why the higher price. Honest mistake.
  6. Bought one from Petmart last week. Saw that they have a couple more buckets in the shop and more in the storeroom.
  7. I'm using Method 2. The chiller pump and return from the chiller is at the last compartment of the sump. This compartment is also where the return pump for the main tank is located.
  8. Since you feed twice a day, have to make sure it is not too much each time. You might want to consider reducing your interval for water change. I feel that 4-6 weeks between water changes might be too long.
  9. Not too sure if there are any ill effects doing it that way. I personally have not tried it. Having said that, I know of some people doing so. They extra solution are usually kept in air tight bottles (e.g. Coke bottles) in the fridge, but I don't think it is kept for more than a week.
  10. Can check out our sponsors, Marine Life and Aquamarin Aquatic. They have a good spread of dry goods and provide good service.
  11. From my understanding - No. If I'm not mistaken the logic is that if calcium hydroxide comes into contact with atmospheric carbon dioxide it becomes insoluble calcium carbonate. This calcium carbonate precipitates out of the solution and does not provide usable calcium. Hope I got that right.
  12. Simei, no problem. Staying very near. I'll take one. PMed you earlier. Can collect evenings or during the weekend.
  13. You mean when the Govt ban Cigarettes the world will end? Maybe for smokers only! Joking only.
  14. Recently, I place a piece of Poly-Filter in my sump to remove impurities and try and bring the NO3 down. An hour or so later I notice my ORP reading dropped from about 400mv to about 200mv. My Ozoniser is programmed to kicked in at about 390mv, so it was ON. Did not think to much about it until the next day. It was then that I realized the Ozoniser was ON for the last 24 hours and the ORP was only about 310-320mv (and this is with a super oversize ozoniser!). This never happened before. Even when I first installed the ozonise, it only took about 6 hrs to bring the reading to 400mv. I remove the poly filter from the sump and the ORP when back to the 400mv range within a couple of hours. I suspected that the shelf life for my filter has expired. So I wrote to Poly-Bio Marine asking for their advice. This is their reply, So question, 1) Anyone aware of this interaction of Poly Filter with Ozoniser? 2) If I don't have double distilled or R/O + D.I., can I use normal DI water for the rinse? 3) Any idea what are the chemical byproducts they are talking about? I have not heard of this with ozoniser use before. Regards
  15. If this is indeed a Blue Ring Octopus, suggest anyone who wants to keep this to do a bit of reseach first. "The Blue Ring Octopus, Hapalochlaena lunulata, is the most venomous octopus. " http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/...ngoctopus.shtml "It has a tiny, parrot like, beak that can bite through your wetsuit The Blue-ringed octopus is only the size of a golf ball but still carries enough poisin to kill 26 humans in minutes The poisin is not injected but comes from it's saliva" http://www.earlham.edu/~sheedjo/blue-ringedoctopus.htm Apologies to the seller, I don't mean to dampen your sale. Just want to make sure that whoever buys this octo knows what he is getting himself into.
  16. I think there a thread on Aquamarin Aquatic Pets forum showing a picture.

    PUMP

    Should not be a problem.
  22. If I'm not mistaken, Wish does not have rear air-con. Something to consider if you are planning on long drives.
  23. The way I would go, but maybe not 30% change. I think that is too much, 10%-20% should be OK. And I usually mix the salt the night before. Not sure about parasites, but tried once and never again! Lugging the container home is for the younger people. Too much effort needed. Big time NO NO. Don't even think about this.
