  1. welcome back Alvin err.... taking things out?? i'm sure we can help you with that
  2. cool equipments from tunze but just 1 grouse... takes up precious space in the tank. nice LR but you may have to cut back when u start to add coral. most mushies n zoos are already attached to LR so i'm afraid the tank may get too cramp. your tank will be way solid when it's loaded with LS.
  3. next time return to the shop or put up for adoption/sale. it's a life u know...
  4. more..... sps abit dark due to overfeeding... recovering cl450 chiller aquabee 3000 as return 3 x tunze universal pump hidden in the rockwork weipro 2011 with maxijet 1200 hydor prime 30 as external fuge (chaeto) seachem purigen rowaphos 1.2kg biohome
  5. some updates... taken under 14kk phoenix 150W. 2 x 24W T5 HO actinic not on.
  6. thanks for compliments but the tank has gone through some changes. will update soon.
  7. best not to use the misting unit. the water vapours when in contact with the HOT glass might just crack it. blow the fan across the water surface. read somewhere in RC that blowing wind across the mh light while have a negative impact on the PAR output... not sure if it's true though ... i'd highly recommend you to get a resun cl280. or if budget is not a concern, get an artica unit. 1/4hp unit is more than sufficient.
  8. why don't you do a search for the reviews on resun and artica chillers in the equipment section? decide for yourself after reading the reviews and which chiller is within your budget.
  9. i have also recently went topless with my 24NC after 7 months. original hood had 4 x 36W PL with 4 fans. was going fine but IBS syndrome set in so removed the hood and hang a HV 150W pendant with 2 x 24W T5 actinic over the tank. using a clothes hanger stand n DIY hood. using a weipro 2011 with maxijet 1200 and works great. also using a resun CL450 with an aquabee3000 as return pump to keep temp ard 27C. have a hydor prime 30 canister as an external fuge with chaeto. will try to post pics when i hv time.
  10. off hand, i would say hermits. check if u have hitch hiker crabs in your tank... some go for tube worms.
  11. sand shifting sea stars get pretty big so not recommended. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di....cfm?pCatId=572 best to get an algae blenny. although not a sand shifter, it does look for food in the sand. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di...y.cfm?pCatId=94 sandshifter gobies http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=1851 the two spot is commonly seen in the lfs. shrimps gobies also do a good job of shifting through the sandbed, especially if paired with a pistol shrimp. but be careful, the digging into the sandbed might cause some rocks to fall if not stacked properly. if you added sand then rock during initial setup, you may have some problems with the digging. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=1852

  15. not really.... got this off the net Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are the total amount of mobile charged ions, including minerals, salts or metals dissolved in a given volume of water, expressed in units of mg per unit volume of water (mg/L), also referred to as parts per million (ppm). TDS is directly related to the purity of water and the quality of water purification systems and affects everything that consumes, lives in, or uses water, whether organic or inorganic, whether for better or for worse. more here http://www.tdsmeter.com/abouttds.html
  16. top up water will not alter SG much. you need to do this during weekly water changes. water change with fresh mix at lower SG than your tank SG. this has to be done gradually to lower the SG down. so maybe it'll take you 2-3 weeks to bring SG down from 1.028 to 1.024. give your LS time to adjust.
  17. do a search on coraline algae using the search function. it'll give you some idea why the purple patches (coraline) are turning white
  18. word of caution. damsals look really cute n colourful when small but they will look and behave totally different as they get bigger.... not so cute and colourful
  19. as a rough gauge, SG of seawater is ard 1.024. most of us after deciding what SG level to have, try to keep it as stable as possible. aim for a range between 1.022 - 1.026
