  1. All wood is suitable as long as you properly coat them. I would varnish them with a few coat of polyurethene varnish. That should protect it.
  2. OK say DSB, what sand to use? Can I use coral sand, those sold everywhere at LFS? And what grade of sand to use? I think skimer works differently right? It doesn't reduce nitrate if it is already in the water but rather reduce compounds that will be converted eventually into nitrate.
  3. I am in the process of equipping my sump. I initially wanted to set up a remote DSB in the sump. However there are many debate for and against DSB especially concerning the release of harmful gasses if not done correctly. I also saw many people uses LR too. My target is to reduce nitrate. My question is which is better; DSB or LR? Or are they equally effective. Thanks
  4. Why don't you use this opportunity to start a new project. DIY the cabinet. If you have already a good stand, just get some plywood ad "wrap" it. Put in some shelves and you're done!! I do it all the time and I'm no carpenter but good fun.
  5. Since we are talkin about DSB, what type of substrate to use and what size. Can I use coral sand and say grade 0??
  6. How to get an accurate reading from swing arm hydrometer? Everytime I take readings, I always need to take a few because the readings are different!
  7. Thanks for the reply. How about culturing pods and other beneficial creatures? Do they hitchhike on LR or LS or do I need a "solution" to seed it?
  8. Reserve for me please. will collect this weekend. thanks
  9. I have a couple of questions about Live Sand(LS): 1) To make the sand substrate 'live' do I need to buy commercially available live sand (arag..something..) or will the sand become 'live" with time. I understand Live rock but don't quite understand LS. 2) BTW, I check the pricing of LS and they are expensive here in Singapore. In US, for USD10 - USD30 can get a 10lb pack. Here, I've seen selling at SGD160 /10lb at ReefDepot. I hope I am wrong! Are there any cheaper alternatives here? If not my mother-in-law will have to lug back a pack for me since she is going to the US Thanks
  10. Thanks, I'll go and check it out.
  11. Where do I go to buy Oceanrunner pumps thanks
  12. Fantastic pics. I'll be interested to get some from you in a few months time if still available.
  13. IMHO, BB don't look good. To keep detritus from accumulating, just change the position of your powerhead once in a while to stirr up the dtritus and make sure there is no dead zones. Once the detritus is in suspension, it will be sucked up by the filter. But of course, i don't see the problem of setting up a DSB in the refugium.
  14. Pardon my inexperience but why do you need 2 pumps?

  16. IMHO clearing about 150kg of rocks at one go is difficult. A lot of us are nano reefers going for maybe 20kg. You might want to break up your sale for faster clearing.
  17. Alamak! Sounds ideal for me because I needed that much and I'm in Jurong West as well but unfortumately, tank's still haven't arrive yet. Damn...
  18. How many gallon/litre does it process?
  19. I am new in the marine though have been keeping FW fishes for a while now. I have a few questions pertaining to LiveRocks: 1) I have several pieces of "dead" dried coral rocks. Can I use a few pieces of live Rocks to see these dead coral rocks? 2) How much light do live rocks need? My tank in in the balcony (covered) and get a couple hours of direct early morning light. Is thi OK? Thank you
  20. I want good condition 2.5ft tank to replace my old tank (centre brace broke). Anyone out there that has a 2.5ft tank preferably with holes drilled a couple of inches from the top so that I can use the overflow to my sump tank below. Please SMS as I seldom check PM. Thanks. tel: 81571997
