  1. Well, since there's not much solid clues, may as well tackle at your tank water. Run carbon (heavy) and WC 1st, then maybe 1 or 2 weeks later try again. Do you guys think could it be coral-killer in the tank? maybe you can setup a kind of proctective shell over the coral see how, using a simple mineral water bottle and a little DIY can do.
  2. Aiyo.... have to dig my RC message.... then search... here they are (and I bookmarked them now too): Hofer Gurgle Buster http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...3&highlight=HGB http://mywebpages.comcast.net/domitron2/HGB/HGB.html
  3. Eh, the shrinking is pratically -- after -- white light off. So nothing to do with the light.
  4. Aiya, you can't be sure of the outcome after the replacement leh. Maybe the new one will even bang on your tank! Mmm... I didn't claim that in-sump pump any better than outside one in terms of noise. To put it simply, its the pump quality --- brand, used period. As a bro pointed, the plumping can be the factor too. As abou the noise of overflow, I used to have that problem too. After I attempt to workout a special durso from the RC, it help reduce the noise to very low, even I just half-done with the thing I believe the noise is caused by the air in the overflow pipe rushing out. So if you can work out a way that the pipe will always full of water, then no air gushing out noise liao. You can try (on your own risk), try to block the outlet of the overflow, so to attempt make the water flow jam up as to fill up the pipe, and notice the noise. When its about time to "flood", let it go then see see.
  5. not to mention that the potential to have a "boiling" tank. Unless you running a chiller. You know, we stay in a damn hot region.
  6. me also faced this things. Dunno too. eventually they move. But I noticed some also missing. I'm guessing maybe they are "growing" this period... just a wild idea. So, give them about 1 week.
  7. Sorry for you about the incident. At least you are more well prepared for next molthing event. BTW, aren't strawberry hermit crab also live in our region? Maybe not selling through LFS.
  8. I been through the RC faq long time ago. It stated that anemone keep on shrinking is a bad sign. But my been in the tank about half year. So, I'm confused is it really a bad sign or just normal behavior for anemone in aquarium. I guess its best to collect from those bros who keeping anemone too. BTW, my one is BTA, not carpet.
  9. Yoh, very interesting. Sounds quite fun and more easy to maintain. Some species of land hermit crabs even make sound. http://www.hermit-crabs.com/index.html chk out its pic gallery too, some quite nice and touching pic. I really love marine invertebrate.
  10. Yoh, bro. Read your thread in Dr Ron site. Seems like some good feedback from other too. So, how your "temp" pets now doing? You really feed them cat\dog food? So "good-live" nen 好命 ! Do you really work out the 6" sand bed? doesn't sounds feasible too.
  11. noise from pump, if the pump is inwater, then you likely have to replace with a better one. if they are external, depend how the noise come. if is from the pump itself, again replace with better one. If noise through vibration, vibrating the pipe, maybe some cloth or soft-thing to help reduce the piping vibration. If is knocking on where its placing, then put something soft as vibration absorbor. For durso, that only about 1 type of design. Of you may try shop in LFS, some do sell them. Remember your overflow compartment must big enough to fit the durso. Else ask LFS custom make for you.
  12. Even lion fish is reef-safe, its not FISH-safe. catch the point? kekekeke
  13. Guys, do your anemone still shrink especially the full light is off? My still do that, but I can't say its dying or declining. It still look good though.
  14. The real hard fact is: You read, but can you remember those info for how long? You do research on something, buy no stock in LFS. Few months past, now there are these or similar stocks in LFS. Can you recall what read? So, you gonna go home do a homework? Guess these "beauty" will wait for you by the time you come back with the so-called-prepared-knowledge? LOL I believe mostly we the reefers in all at realistically is buying something on temptation (too pretty to miss them out, or just too boring nothing good to stock, and your tank kind of empty.... ), only then we start on the reseach "after" the purchase. Tell me, who ever really do full research b4 they buy any live stocks from LFS? LOL I do "practice" research 1st, but the fact is what I read and see, doesn't have stock in LFS. So either wait, buy buy something look similar or "fished" by the LFS boss. hehehehe....
  15. CTO: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php I know most reefer keeping the salinity at 1.022+ The article recommended 1.026 Personnally, I would attempt to keep it at 1.024-1.025 Unless you have an auto-topoff, then you can keep it at 1.026
  16. spiral! ? dont think that's good setup. We setup water circulation best in "random" direction, spiral obviously is in 1 way.
  17. since you go for 2 fans, more nicer. 1 in , 1 out. That's the point of "heat" exchange. Just in no out, not efficient. Will be very bad if outside air is far more hotter. Not surprise during hot season. 1 in at 1 end, the other out at another end. Best if can place the in at an angle toward the water surface, as to blow across the water surface, not direct hit them. HTH
  18. Get the Trace Element stuff, all-the-mini-and-minor-in-one
  19. If its really algae, there are always have the right pets to take them out, like herbivor fishs and invert. But you must ensure those are algae or bacteria. the later one is more tough to tackle. usually some invert may take them.
  20. Isn't there's a worm trap selling in around? chk the eaquanature web store.
  21. Whatever collecting from the beach, which usually not gonna do good in our aquarium. As they are intertide species, mean they live in water and also off water, so they want wet and dry too, unless you can setup an environment like that.
  22. even it help, but the Ich parasite baby are hidden in your tank. When times come, they strike again. So you go the freshwater dip, again and again. Not jia-lat meh?
  23. Even the articles on WetWebMedia regards cynaobacteria also mentioned that some hermit crabs do eat them, but didn't specific any species. I believe its kind of hit and miss, as hermit crabs are opportunist and scanvenger. Their diet comprise of many things, meat, algae, etc. Probably cyano is not their favor food.
  24. lion fish will grow bigger, and can outgrow a clownfish. You start a small fish of both, evetually the lion will outgrow the clown. Well, if you really interested, it can be "fun", if your clown is hosted onto anemone, you may entertain by some chasing scenes, and tell us do anemone really that helpful for the clown. Also becareful with lion fish, their spikes are poisonous, maybe not that fatal.
  25. eventually the lion fish will decided to try a taste onto your other smaller fishs like clownfish. Unless you can find a lion fish which is a vegetarian.....
