  1. glueing with pvc glue basically bonds the pvc from the 2 piece into 1. it sorts of dissolves the surfaces in contact and then when the thinner evaporates, the two surfaces become one. thats y its permanent and cannot take out other than by cutting. I use silicon to coat the contact points or if non critical areas, I just use plumbers tape to wrap tightly the "male" part of the connection (or some call it teflon tape .. anyway its the white filmlike tape used in plumbing connections, very cheap, 50cents a small roll). However, using silicon, dont twist the pipes after it has cured cuz that would make it leak. for the plumbers tape, must wrap tight and neat and then make sure you plug it into the female end as far as it can go and tight.
  2. on the skimmate comparison, personnally, I feel the skimmate in the H&S was better, as in more quantity, darker. but not significantly more, as least from what the eye can see. when I upgraded to the H&S, i was expecting like half cupful of dark skimmate everyday, but it didnt happen (thats why I say its not a marked improvement). Skimmate more like a quarter cupful of dark greentea skimmate every 2~3 days. the macro gave me similar quantity in 4~5days, but less dark. So come to think of it, my earlier post mayb wrong; it may in fact be at least 2x more efficient than the macro. If I tune it to take only sludgy/pastey skimmate, the H&S can give like 1/8 cup a week whereas the macro cup, for the 6 months I tried, cannot tune to get sludgy skimmate at all (only some stuck on the roof of the cup cover). Prior to Macro, I was using a weipro 2012 for 2 years. Finally and most imporantly is, I am getting nitrate about 10-20ppm with the H&S whereas it got sky high with the macro, although maybe not a fair comparison as I did a few things before I changed to H&S like taking out all bioballs and ceramic rings and changing water more regularly. As a disclaimer, I am still learning and evaluating as I only got the H&S 3mths ago so info taken as it is. I hope the above clarifies any confusion. further comments are welcome.
  3. i used a macro as250 (NeedleWheel) before and now upgraded to an H&S 110. frankly, i dont really see very marked improvement in the skimmate. of course the skimmate definitely better in the H&S, but not by 2 fold in my case although price of H&S is more than 2 fold of macro. but what i like about the H&S is that it runs super quiet and only 18W, unlike the macro where the needlewheel pump noise got to my nerves. also, the output of my macro had too many micro bubbles which were quite stuborn to deal with (needed 2 baffle in sump). maybe for the KS100 wudnt have such problems, but not sure skimmate good or not.
  4. i think a hangonback skimmer may b suitable. you just need to fit the pump inside, the skimmer body sits outside
  5. is the spoilt thermostat the probe part or the control unit? if control unit spoilt, for those getting kamiru's unit, I have a spare control panel for sale.
  6. i hav a spare pump, weipro6000, 4000l/hr. no accessories. 5/8" connection outlet. 5' power cable w/ 3pin plug. if interested can let me know by pm. $18. collection sengkang.

WTS T5HO 2ft, PL 36W, FL 3' + OHPump -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the following are available 1) 1x 36W blue PL tube for sale or trade (used a few hours only) 2) 1x OHPump 3000l/hr, Jalli brand. (new, unused, as wrong size for my needs). Can also TRADE with 2000l/hr OHpump w/ 3' OHF. 3) 1x 6500K FL 3' tube (used a few days) 4) 1x pink FL 3' tube (used 2 days) 5) 2x blue T5HO tubes (used about 2mths) (now available again)
  8. some amendments to my post. the 2 x 3' tubes are FL, not PL, sorry for the error. White and Pink. t5HO tubes both tentatively reserved
  9. I have the following light tubes, used for very very few hours only for testing purposes, now in storeroom. 2x24W T5HO 2' (blue & white, Aquaz) 1x 36W PL Blue 2x3' PL White (6500K) and Pink Just make your offer for me to consider. collection in sengkang, or east area. thanks.
  10. i think 800l/hr a bit too slow. your kick in and kick out period maybe more frequent and may take longer to get to the target temperature. i'm using 1800l/hr. so far, about 10mins running with 20mins break inbetween at setting of 27deg. tank running on total 120W total light, 180W total pumps, 30G tank.
  11. solution found by having a separate pump for chiller and return to main tank. my small sump now super crowded with 3 pumps. I still wonder if a good pump can be used thru the chiller before returning to main tank without the noize.
  12. guys, I jus bought a sicce multi 4000 pump (made in italy) and still hav the same problem. If I tilt it, the noize is less. if I put it near the sump wall, the noize is terrible. If I run it without head, its super quiet. I am pumping it thru the chiller up to the main tank via 3/4" tubes and pipes.the noize definitely comes from the pump and not the pipes or anywhere else. anyone knows of any technique that cna quieten this noize? I believe its not the pump, but mayb the piping configuration.
  13. i wud go for the aquaC too. it uses conventional pump and not needlewheel, so less chance of breaking down / easier to replace. also the skimmate have been reported to be quite good by many. plus the remoraC is quite slim behind the tank.
  14. the maroon clown is 2.5" almost black in color and stripes is now halved. very stable and strong, had it for 2yrs. eats formula 2 and frozen brine shrimps. recently gave me some problems cuz she cant find a place to call hers. the anemone I bought her is too small and I cant afford a bigger anemone in my 2.5' tank (recently downsized from 4' to 2.5'). without anemone, she is bound to sweep the sandbed. those who think they can take her in to a good home, please let me know. My place is in sengkang. the PL 36W is almost new .. used only 1 day for testing and also its the wrong size for my casing.
  15. i agree I think the high head is causing the vibration and noize cuz if I let the pump run without any back pressure head, its super quiet. will start a piggy bank to invest in a gd return pump
  16. My 2 cents: I am wondering where you will put your skimmer. do you plan a hang-on one? personnaly i feel the hang on ones with pump inside main tank is quite intrusive. If you can find a hangon with pump small enuf to fit the 2nd sump compartment would be great I think. I;ve heard and seen the Remora pro skimmer works quite well. I suggest some LR into the first sump compartment, with some wool ontop of the LR to prefilter the water (need to clean out often to prevent detritus build up). Carbon put in last compartment, together with the return pump.
  17. hmmm .. mayb i loan one and try first. cuz in another forum, rio pumps were remarked to be noizy sometimes and also prone to breakage. I know if I get the aquabee, sure no noize (cuz the skimmer pump is aquabee and anywhere I put it also no noize at all) ... but quite X.
  18. Any bros can help recommend a quiet return pump in sump (8.5" width) for my 30G tank. Flowrate around 2200~3000l/hr wud b great. i have tried weipro, jebao, hailea ... all fail. for the jebao, I am currently tilting it with one suction pump resting on my skimmer pump. Only in this position it can operate silently. Are there self priming external pumps around?
  19. sand currently reserved for a bro here. thanks
  20. live sand, (grade 1) on my just defunct tank. need to clear by 1stNov. Pls let me know. collection preferably tmrw evening (31st Oct) at Sengkang. bring own pail or container. I will be disposing it on 1st Nov if noone wants. Thanks for reading.
  21. still looking for light set to fit 2.5' tank (of all the standard tank size ... why on earth did you go and buy a 2.5'??! ... well, whats done is done). the exact length is 2'+8".
  22. for the information of all interested reefers, the ballast rating for dymax 3' T5NO is 21W. Even if yours was printed 30W on the tube, and even though the website of the local agent says its 30W, its actually 21W. I got this information by email from the local agent and they apologised for the error in prints and will rectify soon.
  23. ok, thanks guys. Got what I wanted from icecold. very nice guy btw.
