I used both salt mix and seawater. But recently use more seawater because got a company called Oceansing deliver pre-filtered seawater. Selling my Reef Octopus DDNW-150-6530. Used for about a year. Reason for selling is because I have decomm my Marine Tank that is using the Protein skimmer. This is a powerful skimmer for up to 1300L tank. It comes with 2 needle wheels 2000/l OTP-2000 pump with 900l/hr of air. if its a hangon skimmer, you should hang the skimmer outside the tank with piping to the inlet pump and put the pump inside the tank. Of course your outlet pipe need to channel water back into the water again. I seldom see people put the entire hangon skimmer into the tank. Well unless you are saying you put in your sump, then yes, there are some insump and out of sump skimmer but those are not to be used as hangon.

if you read from some books or website, you will know that fishes can survive for more than a week or 2 even without feeding them. As long the aquarium is matured, the fishes can feed on the algae inside or other organisms inside.
