  1. Looks like it could be a chambered nautilus shell with the outer most layer ground off.....
  2. Dan, Your nanos are always so beautiful!
  3. Yeah, but she's an elf afterall....so you can say that they got it right! Elves - unreal beauty; human - earthy beauty..... Anyway, here's a condensed version for those who find the whole story too "cheem"
  4. Not done yet but will be 8 x 80W T5, hopefully powered by 2 x IC660 (but it sounds like they now believe that 4 x 80W may be too much for one 660, so may need the third....), DIY with waterproof endcaps and SLS reflectors.....Haven't figured out how to mount them yet!
  5. I think Edmund was talking about bringing some in when I was ordering from the US a few months ago - search this forum and you should find it. If not, then you will have to order from the US. Have to specify that you want the 220/240V version - it's generally a little more that what you see offered online (110V version) so ask before ordering. I may have a spare....but will have to wire up my lights before deciding.....and that will be a while yet
  6. What!!!! You went to see the opening show without your wife???
  7. Alright! Never knew they did.....now I can look at a few thing in a different light Now to get Gilbert to join those 24-36 month 0% interest free schemes
  8. 110 kg of CF live rock! Must have cost a bomb, and more ! Nice LR but a bit beyond my comfort zone.....CF accept credit card?
  9. I reckon they're good as they do perform some filteration function. However, I would keep an eye out for any tendency to overgrow and smother any other inverts in your tank.
  10. If it's all designed to fit in already then I suppose you can't go bigger. Just that everything else being equal, a larger refugium is better (assuming you're going for a refugium, otherwise....just ignore my "advice" ). Thought mine was OK size but when they delivered it ....it looked really tiny and puny under the tank! Also the first comments of some "lao chiao" here when they saw it too Of course, there's nothing else fitted up so it looks like there's tons of space......
  11. My tank is about 1/2 ft shorter than yours but sump is about a foot longer......and it looks damn small! Am considering redesigning to make it larger. You may want to consider that as well - with 6 ft length, should be able to get it to at least 4 ft and almost 2 ft width. Since you already have much of your equipment, you can figure out how much space outside the sump you will need...
  12. Agree. Pretty much looks like a colonial tunicate.
  13. You mean the overflow wall is siliconed onto another piece of glass that makes up the end of the tank? ie like a sandwhich? (well, kind of...)
  14. Oh, OK. So the overflow wall is one piece acrylic. Doesn't look that thick from the pics but I suppose it is holding.....
  15. Cedric, Is that a 1 piece overflow? Glass? If so, how did he get the slots cut on the top? What are the smaller holes in at the bottom for?
  16. Haha...I forgot about that part! In those days, I dived only in T-shirt ...... brrrr...........
  17. Need to undergo refresher course, and check to see my sinuses are under control! Clarinase to the rescue!
  18. ....don't forget the flouresce when you wave your hands around......Ahhhhh(reminescing....)
  19. Since mine is roughly the same size, these are my thoughts: Cost of tank and cabinet will vary due to the specifications you want. I think you can get a regular tank and cabinet for about $1,500 to $1,800? (don't know cause mine cost quite a bit more than that) Pump: you know my bias - Deltec! from $500-$600 up to $1K plus depending on capacity Lights: IMO if you are just doing softies and zoos, then probably do not need a MH; T5 would be good. Price? not sure as mine are DIY and using Icecap ballast and SRS reflectors, which put the price right off the normal scale...Can check with our sponsors - ATI lights sound good Chiller: if using T5 I think you can get away without a chiller but better have contigency plans for it (space etc). Reckon on $1,500? - check with sponsors on their chiller - pretty good and reasonable. I am going DIY....if needed. Skimmer: get the best you can afford.....either some bro's DIY product or some of the well known european and american brands. The new Macro needlewheel skimmers sound promising but not sure of real life performance - maybe Morgan can let us know Sump: as large as you can fit in under the cabinet with space for TUBBY, kalk reactor. You probably don't need a calcium reactor unless you're keen on clams and SPS. IMO and after a false start, I think a sump designed AFTER getting the cabinet/stand would be better - you will then know the exact dimensions you can use! Hope this helps....
  20. Night dives were my favourite when I used to dive a lot. You can see a whole new world and often get much closer to the diurnal species, which are usually half asleep. The reef at night is full of tiny, small inverts that come out and they are just absolutely beautiful. AT, you should try a full darkness dive during a full moon - man, that's another experience..... Hmm....makes me want to dive again!
  21. There are quite a few things there but you must go at super low tide. During my "wayward" days long...long...time ago, I used to get sand anemones, brain, coral frags (washed up after breaking off in storms etc), pistol shrimp and some other odds and ends. Not super stuff but it was fun......
  22. No problem Alvy....been too busy myself so my tank's basically stagnant!
  23. Yeah, heard about the legendary Deltec fluidized bed calcium reactors. Anybody know how to DIY one......
