  1. Mine is also 12 mm, about same tank size as AT's. 12 mm should be fine for your size.
  2. Was told that LFS shop price should be more than at Aquarama....Not sure if it's true since some LFS will discount from recommended retail. Anyway, being kiasu, bought one there and then!
  3. I doubt that QC is a problem with DC. Most likely deterioration dt poor storage (needs to be stored <30C)improper usage, or not knowing how to use it - most likely the latter. My tank maker was a little worried - he called me after 3 hrs to tell me that it doesn't stick! Luckily he was smart and tried it out on a small piece of glass first. If he was a little worried, I was even more worried - those small pieces still didn't stick after 3 days!! (maybe because we had already seperated them earlier?) Fortunately with leaving it for 6 days, the tank stuck and is solid as a rock now.....phew! I think most tank makers cannot afford the time to let the tank take up space for 6 days before moving!
  4. True....cure time on spec sheet is actually something like 21 days. 6 days is minimum before attemping to move the tank! Anything before that and it's liable not just come apart!
  5. I have 12 tubes of black DC 795 silicone for sale at $14.50 per tube. Expiry in May 2004. DC 795 silicone is widely recommended for large tanks on many forums and a few of us here in SRC have tanks made with it. Excess from my tank project - had to buy a case as they did not sell loose and am selling at cost (contractor pricing, and actually less than cost as I had to pay GST!). These are the foil pack (like bologna sausage) 591 ml packing which is almost double the normal plastic applicator tube. A special applicator is required but I will lend it to you if you are not taking the lot (who needs that much anyway ); if you want it all, then I will throw it in for free (an $80 value). Note of warning: This sealant is a slow-cure silicone and will take at least 6 days before it will be safe to move the tank. However, once cured, it is solid! If your tank maker has no experience with it, you will need to warn them.
  6. Diving booties are best - slippers are a no-no > they will get stuck and lost in the mud forever Next best is probably an old pair of sneekers that fit well and you want to throw away..... Lots of things to see there - huge population of carpet anemones in all colors, ceriantus (tube) anemones, sand dollars, sifting stars, cucumbers etc. See-no-touch only - definately cannot bring any back
  7. Still on leave and nothing to do, so take the opportunity to visit friends in Jkt. Sadly, cannot bring any CITES listed things back ( not that it is forbidden, but Indo will not issue CITES certs for Singapore; also no one will bother to do for you if you are bringing just a few pieces!)
  8. haha....knew it couldn't be mercury - too toxic to be used in this way!
  9. Most Wed and Thurs always free...except for this week - going to visit Jkt LFS!
  10. Are you using the frozen or freeze-dried cyclopeeze?
  11. Hey Flubber, go LFS never call me! Thught we had a deal
  12. One panel can easily cost you the price of a regular tank......
  13. haha...you're not the only crazy one now!
  14. Float glass is just regular glass - pretty much all glass is made by this method nowadays. The molten glass is poured onto a bed of mercury (I think) and allowed to find it's own level and harden. This way, the glass surface should be totally smooth and flat. In the old days, molten glass was rolled to flatten it out to give thin sheets - as you can imagine, it would not be as smooth, regular or precise in thickness manufactured this way.
  15. Nobody makes it here as a stock item. I got mine through my contractor - figured it may be easier for a contractor to ask as we only need small pieces and the dealers may not entertain private individuals. Got mine fromSingapore Safety Glass Alternatively tell your tank maker to order from them - most of them should know who these people are. I do not recommend approaching them direct.
  16. Structually the same - just more expensive as they have to process it to lower the iron content of the glass. BTW, Starphire is just a brand name - there are other brands available. Mine is not Starphire and it costs about maybe 1/3-1/2 of AT's.
  17. Was told that their is now made-in-China low iron glass available at a very low price - something like $50 per sq metre.......just whether you trust made-in-China goods or not...... Remember all those shower screens that shattered in Sengkang - Made in China
  18. Wow! That's a really wide tank! LOTS of room for scaping..... ........and welcome to the club - you've just stepped into the bottomless pit
  19. Wah.....Amy, your powers of persuasion damm good! I think next time I have to follow you whenever you go shopping - maybe can hitch onto a good deal Remember......call me when you want to go LFS shopping!
  20. No, the 6060/6080 are single speed and not controllable. If you want to use the controllers (7091/7094) you will need to get the 6000 or 6100.
  21. I'm not getting slow access....I'm getting intermittent access! Sometimes (like now) things work fine, whilst at other times, I can only get to the main forum index, and any other thread that I click on does not work - gives me a "cannot find server" message. Yesterday, it suddenly decided to work again - no changes etc done by me..... Why? Beats me?? I really have no clue about these things. Anybody have an idea what's happening???
  22. Nice Rose anemone and clown! Pics look OK but if you want to try to correct the colors to what you see, try adjusting with photoshop or other graphics program.
  23. Now here's a wild idea....Would it be possible to use FW planted tank substrate? What are the upsides/downsides? (don't know much about these substrates.....)
  24. Anyone tried MM *under* a layer of sand? Just thought this may be less messy.
