  1. when i just got my true percula clownfish, it also show the same sympton as yours! but it's ok after a few days. u can monitor it for a while. initially i tot not enough oxygen but my clownfish still survive until now.
  2. went to oasis yesterday and did saw some 1" true percular clownfish... but the clownfish not up to expectation cos the fins a bit tattered.
  3. no lah. it not expensive at all. $x is refering to variable x. it not meaning expensive.
  4. CF price is $x.... But when u think of the feasibility, it not very worth it... CF is at LCK and i stay at the east side... very ulu place. no car cannot go. take taxi also very exp. drive there also take about 1hr like tat... go tat place also very low morale cos u see only trees and more trees... remind me of my army dayz... so if anyone saw small true percula clown fish about the size of 1 inch, drop me a msg! thanks!
  5. any one know where got sell small true percular clown fish? about 1 inch size... the last time i saw it was at Coral farm... any other place got sell?
  6. yup. quite a nice product so far cos i being using to about 1 wks liao. still crystal clear water. n u r right, tat time i rub many times n yet, black water still come out till i bo chup n jus place it in my hang on filter n it looks fine now.
  7. seems like it bleaching... i have notice one of my clove polyp also change to white colour but not the entire colony.. the rest is doing quite well. i just got a star polyps yesterday night and waited for the whole night only about 8 polyps open... did you do any changes to your tank before they close for 3 wks? maybe you can place it at a place with up to moderate current flow and good lightning? what is your water parameters?
  8. hi fongster, aiya... too late... i already rinse with tap water... anyway, the packaging on the Pur 2 carbon say do not open the pouch leh... agree it a bit overkill for my nano tank but will too much carbon harm the inhabitant in my tank??
  9. hi morpheous, i rinse many times but it still black colour water leh... how ar?
  10. Hi, I bought a bottle of pur II carbon and in it came a pouch which contain the carbon. i try placing it into my Hang On filter and to my horror, when the water run through it, my nano tank water become black in colour!!!! cause by the carbon... i subsequently take out the pur II carbon pouch to prevent my whole nano tank from turning black. now i try rinsing it and hopefully, it won't cause the water to turn black... Do you guys know what is the proper way to use this? thanks!
  11. hi, how much wattage of lights is suitable for soft corals (e.g. mushrooms etc) so that they can open nicely taking into consideration that the water parameter are ok for a 1ft cube tank. a 9watt or 13 watt blub??
  12. maybe u change the chemipure and all the good bateria are gone after you change it. subsequently this leads to not enough good bateria and the fishes start to die? just my opinion.. actually i kinda cautious when changing filter media thingy. a LFS owner once told me that you cannot change the things in the canister filter or else all the fishes would die. reasons is because changing the things in the canister filter will kill all the good bateria...
  13. Hello everybody, few questions. my cleaner shrimp molted. 1. Why does shrimp molt? 2. Does molting indicate that the water parameter is good? i read tat in order for shrimp to molt, it depends on idodine etc. 3. Does shrimp molt when it is stress out? Thanks
  14. i plan to get some star polyps or mushrooms in probably a mth time and see whether it is successful. if they grow fine in it, will maybe trying adding 1 or 2 clownfish into the tank again.
  15. i agree with u. initially i tot of starting with 3ft setup but due to space constraint, decided to start off with 1ft first and in the future upgrade to 2ft tank. read in the nano section tat lotsa people succeed with their nano tank and some are begineer. tat y willing to try it n have set myself the limit of keeping 3 live stock in the tank only. now i'm gonna to let my tank run as it is now for maybe up to a mth and see how things goes.
  16. actually not really true leh... i think that cleaner shrimps are like commando. my friend cleaner shrimp have been around with him since he start up his nano tank. in the process, about 5 to 6 fishes die in his nano tank within the space of about 2 mths plus but this cleaner shrimp survive throughout this ordeal and it had grow bigger... cleaner shrimp gd to keep. at least my cleaner shrimp now is eating fine now. hope tat nothing happen to this little fella.
  17. hi tanga, i definitely will not add in any more fishes. it sad to see my fishes die... will pouring in the nitrifying bateria causes my cleaner shrimp to die?
  18. barnacle: then how u grow bateria? i know u can drop those bateria pills but read in this forum tat it might not be reliable. wat other methods? add in more live rock? but then i think tat adding in more live rock again will kill the existing fishes in the tank...
  19. hi all, thanks for all your replies! i been reading up sgreefclub since last year sept and yet this sort of misfortunes happen... zappy kiwi: on the first day, my nemo jump out of the water. woke up in the morning to find one of it gone. search around in the tank cannot find and eventually found it under the table. this nemo is a surivival man! i put it in the water and suddenly it comes alive! surpise me alot! probably stay in the air for a while tat y didn't die. i came to the conclusion that it get bully by the other nemo till it jump out of the tank. andylee: i place the fishes directly into the first tank. seen my colleagues do tat and his fishes are doing well. total stock in the tank is 3 for a 1ft tank before both nemos died. qxnviolet: the pump comes together with the hang on filter and the tank. it in a package form. i have tune the current flow to the lowest. initially i tot the current was giving my nemos problem so i tune it to the lowest. before i go n buy the fishes, i do a test again to ensure the ANN is within acceptable range. i feed the fish on the first nite and it ate some of the food. second nite also ate some of the food. third day morning and it dead... btw, where can i buy a hangon filter with surface skimmer incorporated together? arcanehacker: i use those floating type of hydrometer to measure the salinity. it within the safe region of the green zone. can't remember the value at the now but it definitely at the green zone. i measure the ANN on saturday and found it to be ok and so next day go n buy the shrimp and fishes loh.... fionafiona: i think that bateria can exist on the sand bed, filter media etc. tat y i think tat if i gave away tat piece of rock and buy a new live rocks, the existing bateria in the sand and filter media could still sustain the environment of the fish tank... but even so, i waited for 1 wk for the new live rock to settle down in my tank and measure the parameter every 2 days. if ANN is not cycle properly, my shrimp could have died with the nemos. agree? if only there is a way to measure the correct amount of bateria in the tank like how u measure ammonia etc... so wat is the post mortem result ar? 1. temperature too high? unlikely since most of u guys say it not the temperature issue... 2. not enough bateria? 3. not enough oxygen in the tank?
  20. Hi cdckjn thanks for ur advise. actually my colleague also have a small 1ft tank and running hang on filter without skimmer in the office and his 2 nemos are doing well. anyway, do u know of any place which sell nano skimmer which can fit into a 1 ft cube tank? ur tank at least have an overflow which is fantastic! but my 1ft tank can't incorporate an overflow...
  21. thanks for the reply. yup. got live rocks... my entire ANN cycle is like tat. 1. put in tap water with salt and mix it. let it run for about 1 week. 2. put it grade 1 sand and let it run for a few days. (approximately 3 days) 3. go to buy a big piece of live rock. let it cycle for 1 week. notice ammonia spike in sera test kit. 4. give away this big live rock cause it taking lotsa space in my tank. 5. purchase another 3 small pieces of live rock and leave it in the tank for 1 week and put in biohome into the hang on filter. 6 on saturday, measure the parameter and everything is ok. Therefore go buy the fishes on sunday. but my clownfishes still die... can clownfishes survive in temp up to 30 degree? does the thin layer of oil causes lack of oxygen in the tank which causes the clownfish to swim on the surface which inevitablely lead to their death?
  22. Hi guys, need your advices. I'm new to this hobby and my tank is a pico tank. about 1 ft cube with hang on filter. filter media include, biohome, carbon and sponge. I let this tank cycle for 1 month and below are the parameter ammonia: 0 nitrite: 0 nitrate: 12.5mg/l i remember there is a spike in ammonia and since now it is 0, i would say the cycling is completed. therefore, i went to purchase 3 livestock last sunday. Got 2 true percula clownfish, and 1 cleaner shrimp. However, my 2 clownfish died this morning when i woke up! less than 2 days but my shrimp is fine! on the sunday when i place my clownfish in the tank, it doesn't look good when they keep swimming actively at the surface of the water. on monday, when i woke up, i found that one of my clownfish jump out of the tank! but surpisely it still alive! i place it back in the tank and now all my clown fish is dead... very sad n disappointing and a bad start to this hobby. What causes the clownfishes to die? 1. Temperature hit 30 degree. could this be the problem? 2. Nitrate too high? 3. Notice a thin layer of oil on the surface when i look at the water against the lights. Could this be the reason? 4. Not enough good bateria? Talking about this bateria, how u know u have the right amout of bateria? For now i will stop buying fishes but change 50% of the water. Guys, any advise why my clown fishes die??? Thanks!
